    We released him the year we went to the Superbowl. We missed the playoffs the next year and Bush won the presidency. 2005 was Hurricane Katrina. In 2006, Pluto is demoted from planetary status. Have not returned to the playoffs since.

    Jake is certainly erratic but he is not the real problem right now. The defense sucked last year and did nothing to improve other than changing defensive coordinators. Now that defense has lost its best run stopping DT and maybe two other starters, one of them a probowler. The offense has looked weak in the preseason mostly due to missing its starting receivers.

    If Smith is able to go at full speed all year then the offense will be OK I am not sure how you fix the defense though. If you are soft in the middle and can not stop the run then you are pretty much screwed.

    The guys we have as backups can help with the pass rush, which more than makes up for the loss in run stopping.
