We seem stuck on this roller coaster.

    2003 Superbowl
    2004 miss playoffs
    2005 NFC championship game
    2006 miss playoffs
2007 (looked good til Jake went down) miss playoffs
    2008 12-4 win division
2009 ??? looking bad so far though

    What is up with that?

I think 2004 was the year Smith was injured. Wasn't that the year too that Nick Goings had a few wild games. If so, we must have had a back injured too.

FWIW, I don't think we are looking that bad this year. There are a lot of things we can definitely improve on, but this is preseason. It's not like we're resorting to the wildcat to get a preseason win.

I think 3. Davis, Foster, and most likely they had that little Perdue kid ahead of Goings too.

I don't know on the ups and downs. It's a lot easier with an easy schedule than it is a hard one, a lot easier when you're healthy. We've had other challenges the other years- there's no crystal ball prognostication for "our starting QB will miss 13 games and the former #1 overall backup is going to shit the bed hardcore."

Bad football for Fox is still entertaining, solid fundamental football, is still 7-9 at worst, and there's worse things than that. I'll take 7-9 every second year for playoffs every other year. I'll take that shit for decades before I'll take a 1-15.

yep, we don't put good years back to back, acording to our history. And I don't expect much this year. But I will take a bad year this year for a good one next year. The big thing is to not go into a multi year funk chasing an unrealistic goal.

Honestly I put it on injuries coupled with a poor roster management plan. You can look at most successful teams and look at their needs and they will address them. This teams seems to ignore the obvious issues and go on minor tangents. It's odd.

2004 was a lot of injuries, not many teams would be able to respond to that.

2006 had some injuries to the OL but I think they under performed that year.

2007 it is hard to lose your starting QB, especially when your back up is a total bust.

I guess it is really not Fox's fault but I get the feeling this year is going to continue the trend.
