oops..supposed to be 1080i. There is no what I think about it. EDTV is 480p. I was told to take the EDTV tv home and try it for 30 days and it wasnt even worth it. Whats your deal? You want a plasma just for thin size? for office or home use? Is the space an issue? If so, buy the edtv. If its not, take a look at the rptv. The new ones are about 13" -16" in depth. If you are looking for picture quality, then buy anything besides a edtv. I spent about 2 months researching all this mess.

You not so bright, I spell it out: I don't want your educated opinion. I want to hear from people that have purchased a set. Since you have not purchased a set, I do not care about your opions on the matter.

As if it matters, I've been researching this for a year+. I know what I want, I just want to hear from people that have lived with it, see if they found special requirements, or if they have a sweet setup maybe I can come by and see it.

FYI: most HDTV sets cannot display native 1080i - they are natively maybe at the 720p level. It'll about the internal scaler and quality of the glass. Panasonic EDTV's have AWESOME scalers and awesome glass, so their picture is great. There is definitely CRAP out there, but it has very little to do with EDTV vs. HDTV. RPTV's SUCK ASS - I'd like to be able to watch the TV from somewhere other than directly in front of the set.

You are an angry person. Let's talk about that. Why is it you feel the need to go nuts about this, when I specifically said I'm only looking for datapoints from people that own a plasma? What were you hoping to accomplish? Either you are a) obtuse, or b) needy and find this is a good forum to have people listen to your rants. For a) I can't help your stupidity othen than putting a filter on you so I don't have to see it. For b) I can't help your stupidity other than putting a filter on you. So, I will have a filter on you.

Anyone else have some constructive points to make, some history with Plasmas you have owned (or even a friend that has owned one for a while)?

Sounds like an interesting career choice. Could I move into that field?

I tried to offer my experience with my last tv purchase and you just belittled me with your "I dont care what you have to say" comment. I could have purchased the EDTV but chose different and gave you my reason why. I have home use experience with plasma HDTV, EDTV and RPTV. What material are you planning on watching? HDTV? SD? both? what? What about DVD? Just progressive scan mode? Obviously you have no experience with none besides going to a store since you seem to think RPTV angles are horrible. The viewing angle on my TV is perfect from everywhere in the room. I have calibrated it with AVIA and will have it professionally calibrated sometime next month after I move into my house. You are welcome to come by and take a look at my setup.

how did I miss this? I love people that say "I'd wait." guess what? You will be waiting forever. There will always be something newer coming out. I guess you still have a commodore 64?

I might be wrong but DTV is the standard format. Are there different types of DTV formats floating around? HDTV and DTV are completely different.
If you think plasma, lcd, rptv are going anywhere, you are wrong. There choices will be here for a while. I dont think booty is going to stock o up on tv's. I think he is buying one.

My grandmother had a TV that was 40 years old that still worked fine but she wanted a new one. Knowing your past fianancial history, you are completely right. You dont need to spend money on a tv. oh yeah...I'll sell you my tv in few years when I'm ready to buy something new.
