    Here's some updated pics......

The plasma is recessed and the wiring runs through the mantle and down the newley built 'trim box' (double entendre). It then goes under the house and back up to the components which are reasonably stealthy and out of the way in the end table.

I'm pleased and it was relatively cheap - about $3k for all - display, DVD, receiver, speakers, mount, wiring, and carpenter.

For those that haven't read the thread, it's the EDTV. 42". I went with the cheaper EDTV b/c the distance that I'm sitting from the display on my couch makes the difference very neglibile, plus I'm no longer that anal. However, when the 50" panny HD is $2k (it's already down to $3k from $4.6 k 10 months ago), I will buy it and mount it where the 42 is now, and move the 42 into the playroom for the kids for dvd's, xbox and shit.

I think it would. That chimney is capped and blocked, and I have no desire to have a fireplace.

MANY people have plasmas mounted OVER the mantle without problems (with a working fireplace). I think heat/smoke coming directly up to the plasma would be a problem with Meat's installation if you tried to replicate it on a working fireplace.

I think if I really wanted too, and was willing to gotot the expense of repairing the chimney (thousands likely) and buy a gas place (thousands with gas line) and fireplace accoutrements, I could also likely have someone build some sort of trimmed casing around the bottom of the set, even insulate it.

But again, i have no desire to fix it. I would like to clean the paint up and put an old iron front thing on the front. But until the tots get big, it'll be a place to put toys and stuff.

    Grid wtf is that thing?

    Need some suggestions....

I'm in the market of buying a 42 inch plasma. I'm probably moving into a condo downtown sometime next year.

What are some of the things that I should look for?

Are there any good sites I can read up on?

    My range is from $1500-$2400....
