What kind, do you like it, where did you get it?

I'm leaning hard towards the Panasonic 42" Plasma, Industrial version. $2700 these days, shipped. There is a new 46" Plasma coming out soon, I hear, at around $3100 or so, MUCH better than current 46" sets. Great price for the size.

Anyone gone the Costco route (Akai 42" for $2700)? That model is a rebranded Samsung, heard it kinda sucks.

EDTV, by all reports, is as good as HDTV. My own in-store visits prove that out as well. AVSForum and other boards are far more technical, so I'm not looking for generic stuff.

Anyone that has a plasma, please provide your thoughts on the purchase. Some local, legit reviews would be sweet.

you should get your eyes checked, seriously. If it's the money issue that keeps you from buying a plasma then go with the rptv.

I would wait a few years. The industry has not standardized the future of television broadcast. According to planned FCC regulations, CRT televisions and VCRs will all need digital converters to work properly. Analog broadcasting will be a thing of the past. Televisions with big heavy glass tubes will become extinct. You can keep your current tube, but DO NOT BUY ONE. Yes, they are really cheap these days, but save your money and get something good after prices of digital television has dropped. Unless you absolutely must have the latest and greatest, use your tube tv with a converter until prices drop.

Look at digital cameras... hell, look at computers for that matter. Everyone went out and spent hundreds, thousands when these came out. Look at them now.

The problem with standardization is that there is no standard format of digital television. Sure, there is HDTV and EDTV. I am talking about the type of television, ie plasma, lcd flat screen, projection, etc.

Did you go out and stock up on laserdiscs and digital compact cassettes (DCC) when they came out? Sucks for those who did. DVD's and CDR's and CDRW's came out shortly after as the industry standard, eclipsing and eliminating LD and DCC entirely.

I may sound like I am talking out my ass on this one, but I am going to wait until the world of digital media settles down and prices drop. I have a 27 inch Zenith television and a 10 year-old sony VCR, no DVD player. They work fine for me, why should I go out and spend a ton of money on something I simply don't need?

Again, if you don't own one, I don't care what you have to say. If you have had an EDTV and switched because it sucked, preach on.

I had a sony gwiii that went bad as did thousands of them. BB tried to pawn off an edtv for the same price. I saw the 2 side by side. If you think the edtv res of 480p looks a good as 780p or 1080i then you need to get your eyes checked. go buy one.

If you think EDTV is 480P and HDTV is 2080i, that's a whole 'nutha issue. Brands, quality of internal scaler, input selection, calibration, etc. obviously make a HUGE difference. Anything bought a BB or CC in mid to high-end electronics is a mistake anyway...

Yet again, if you haven't bought one, I don't care about RPTV or LCD or whatever else you've dealt with. If you just saw EDTV Plasmas in a store and didn't like them, great. I want to know who has HAD one and liked it/disliked it.
