Anyone ever

    put Cat 5/6 throughout their house?


    How hard/easy was it? Any pointers you can give me?

    It's just as much of a pain in the ass as trying to route any other kind of line. Make sure to check the distance limitations of any single run of cable, though. Make sure you stay within those limits. Putting the ends on is easy as fuck. Although the wall-jacks and stuff tend to be a bit pricey.

    Also, try to keep them away from the electric lines... I don't think it would make a huge difference, but you may get some noise in the line. It's more important if you have VOIP phones.

    i did cat5 in our remodle. not that hard. all i had to do was route it, staple it, and leave a 12" loop hanging from each box and at the main terminal. my finish electrician wired the jacks though. i forgot to place a jack at the tv so i could have my DirecTV updated, order pay per view, and movies. i had to run a phone line from the tv to the nearest jack and i didnt really want that. it would be a nice touch. thats all i got right now.
