    Redskins | Smoot Won't be Franchised - from www.KFFL.com
    Fri, 4 Feb 2005 11:53:46 -0800

Jody Foldesy, of the Washington Times, reports the Washington Redskins will not use their franchise tag on CB Fred Smoot, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent. The tag's value for the 2005 season is at a record $8.816 million. The highest-priced tag usually has been reserved for quarterbacks, but the cornerback position made an unprecedented jump into the top slot for 2005.

Bengals | Franchise Value Determined for R. Johnson - from www.KFFL.com
    Fri, 4 Feb 2005 11:49:14 -0800

Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals RB Rudi Johnson, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent, would make $6.323 million in 2005 if the Bengals place their franchise tag on him and he were to accept playing under the terms of it. Johnson, as previously reported, would sit out the season if the Bengals used their franchise tag on him.

Why the hell would you want to sit out if they're going to pay $6.3 mil? Hell, I'd try my hardest to get a perpetual franchise tag slapped on me.

I think Rudi wants a bigger SB than $6.3. And if that's his attitude, see below.

Smoot's an idiot, and a 'character'. Fox has stated 'We want a team with character, not a team of charaters' about 400000000000 times. So, I don't see us getting Smoot.

All these guys are coming out of their initial contract situation. They've each been near-Pro Bowl level players for a short time, so they want that big contract. I don't blame them.

But other than job security, I can see why teams would love the franchise tag and players would hate it. You get nothing up front, you have no future.

Fred Smoot, 1 rep @ 225 lbs. Still makes me chuckle. :D

Missed this thread until HB bumped it.

You're a little off base on Smoot now Meat. That's all past rep 'cause he really came around this year. The Skins should try and keep him unless he goes apeshit and asks for mad money.

In fact, I'd be tempted to keep Smoot and try to trade Arrington.

And this is why you post on a message board instead of an NFL war room.

    Smoot couldn't tie Arrington's shoes!

Maybe that's why his shoes keep coming off.

    Arrington's a playmaker and a physical presense.

But they did better without him this year. No freelancing equals fewer big plays. And a lot of people in Skins land say Smoot was better than Bailey last year and this.
