I consider myself an intermediate computer guy (home use) - I get a kick out of this dude on ShopNBC.com...

He is selling his ass off now... showing people the "cover page" of web pages that if he has already been there, will load pretty fast - (on a 56k modem) he says "folks I'm doin this cause I have an ethernet card" well maybe the punk should tell people they also have to prescribe to RR or DSL to get that kind of speed.

Corel Office 2002 ( Who the fuck uses Corel Office?) - over $1000 in software he says he does not tell you that with that high speed card that you can get 90% of that shit free from Kazaa...

Its not stealing, its sharing. For example, if I bought and paid for Microsoft Office and lets say I no longer use it or I went out and bought a new version. Being the owner of the old version, I have every right to give you that old copy of Office as a gift or just cause I'm nice. Kazaa just makes it easier for me to give it to you, saves postage and everything...

As far as that other software the dude was pushing, its the kind of stuff you get free for buying something else... that kinda stuff.

You are correct with the situation you mentioned. The majority, however, of software available is new software still being used by the "sharer". Many come with the "crack" to get past the anti-pirating issues.
In theory, only one person could legally purchase a given software, and "share" it with the world. With XP, Dreamweaver 4 and others available over there, common sense tells me people are doing a little more than "gifting" something they don't use.

KaZaA story

It's basically situational ethics.
Is it OK to fudge on your taxes?
Is it OK to keep the extra $5 the Wal-mart cashier gave you by mistake?

Many people rationalize it by saying, "I'm not profiting from it. It's not like I'm making multiple copies and selling it."

Who's right? Who's wrong? Some people say it depends on the situation. Others don't.

For me, that was my rationale. I downloaded Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash 5.0 and a few manuals and played around with it for a couple of weeks. I created a website and a few animations and thought, "this is cool."

But then it struck me. What was the process? A guy had a dream. A corporation was built to create that dream. (In this case, software). Millions of dollars were spent in R&D to make that dream a reality. And I took it without giving compensation.

Call it "guilty conscience" or whatever you will, but your tag line says it best. I believe I did the right thing when I removed it from my machine.

C'mon, PM, corporations are faceless entities that exist for us all to leech off of.

Call it Robin Hood technology... with Kazaa, the po folks like me that can't affort to go out and buy 1000 songs and turn them into MP3, can now get them for free... it really makes America great... now I can have as much music as the rich guy...

But back to the PC guy on any of the shopping channels... it really is funny to listen to them... you feel like being one of their live callers and saying, I just wanted to say ... You're full of shit!

Robin Hood was a thief.:p
But I do agree about most of the people you see pedaling technology on TV. Most are laughable.
