I don't think Philly structured the bonus that way. They had plenty of cap room to use last year, even after signing Kearse, so they split TO's bonus into a $4 million signing bonus and a $6 million roster bonus. That roster bonus was all in last year's cap so the only pro-rated amount was the 4.

regardless of how they split it, my point was that they're not going to offer Moose more then they offered Terrell and slightly less then what Terrell got is certainly reasonable for us to pay Moose.

You let him go when he won't sign for your best price. Unless we break the bank, he's going to want to look around. We cannot bring him back at his asking price. We probably can't bring him back. But the market may be softer than what he thinks. So there is an outside chance, but in this case we will have to depend on others.

But in most cases, I agree with you. Its also why you want to sign guys before you get into this situation. In Mooses case, whether it was his fault or not, his production did not justify it before.

The Panthers plan was to release him all along I believe. That's part of why they drafted Colbert. If Smith doesn't go down, Moose would have had a so-so season, similar probably to the numbers Colbert put up. In that scenario, with his age, Carolina has a much better chance to resign him at a very palatable number, or if they can't its not seen as the distaster some are making it out to be now.

The Smith injury was more devastating than we thought.

TOwens has been producing year in and year out, Moose has one TO year and you guys think he is worthy of TO money. The guy is 31, he had a great year, good for him, we need help in other areas to much to tie up that amount of money in an aging player.

I would love to see Moose retire here but not at the expense of our ability to contend. If we could sign him for something reasonable I would hope they do it but not if it puts a hurt on our cap and keeps us from addressing some of our other needs like OL and the secondary.

sorry, but leading the league for 3 out of 9 years doesn't compute to one TO year in my book. The rest of the time, he had musical QBs, coaches, and whatnot.

Fox has commented on multiple times about how good of a blocker Moose is. Hopefully that figures into their estimated worth/value of Moose.

And obviously I agree that he would be a great talent to have but we also have other needs.
