Those were simple restructures. No pay cuts. They threw in the big bonus so he couldnt be franchised. It was an effective strategy, because he'd be being tagged right now.

That being said, I don't think he should have to take a pay cut. Get cut, go see what the market is, see how far under that the Panthers offer is, and then decide whether staying in town is worth it. If not, we understand.

No. That's a disastrous policy - allows someone else to negotiate your contract, while your franchise leader's pissed at being let go. You don't let him go until you're absolutely resigned to the fact that he can't be brought back.

The part I bolded is a key issue. We don't use a TE for much more than another lineman. Wiggins showed he is capable as a receiver for the Vikes this year.

yep. he was good with NE, too. We had a talented player and misused him.

So much so that he took less than the Panthers had offered to get outta town.

For some reason, he thought that a TE is supposed to catch the ball instead of push big guys. WHAT A STUPID THOUGHT?

Yep that is true, he did show some nice flashes at times when used.

I guess the main thing that puzzles me the most is why we don't use the TE more with this offense. With the problems we had with our O-line, it just seems if one of the opposing teams DE or LB actually had to worry about a pass catching TE it couldn't hurt, could it?

Not that we have a Walls on the team, Wiggins could be that maybe, but Steve B. at least had that option when in trouble.
