    Solarte? Magnus?

I am guessing he is gone at this late date. I'd love to have him back but at 31 and wanting a big payday I almost wouldn't mind a lesser receiver of similar size and get either a vet OT or FS with remainder of cash that would have gone to Moose

I was wondering that myself.

Last we heard, a deal was 'imminent' during Senior Bowl week, then nothing.

If we release him that frees up ten million in cap space? If that is so we should be able to sign a good RT and a good free safety and still sign all our draft picks without having to cut anyone or restructure anyone. Plus we could draft for the best player available rather than drafting for need to fill RT.

I like Moose but we might be better off letting him walk. This is how the Pats or Eagles would handle this. Maybe we get him back after one year ala Trotter.

Releasing him is precisely the type of thing that has built the "New England Dynsaty"

Not quite. We still take a cap hit for next year's salary, but we'd prevent the $10 bonus from going into effect.

Releasing him would not, but spending the money gained wisely would in fact help. Something we've not always done.

Getting him to sign a deal for less would probably be more like the Pats, but we can't make him do that.

Yeah. The numbers we heard first was 6 years, 30 million, 6 million up front. Then Moose's agent said it would cost 35 million, over 5 years, with 10 million guaranteed in the contract. Perhaps we offered one, he countered with 2, and that' where we are still at. That's not terribly far away, but far enough that he could go.

Keep in mind that his cap number this year will go down regardless. But I am getting concered about 2007 when all our contracts are high, though the cap could be up to 100 million by then if the TV contract go the way the NFL wants.

Why would we take a hit for next year's salary if he is released? I can see if we had some pro-rated bonus to pay off but not salary.

I think Brain means we will still have bonus money on the books. I think his cap hit is about 12 million total, and releasing him would save 10.

I would be happy with Smith and Colbert as our starters and drafting a guy this year to be the third receiver. I think that might force us to use the tight end more though since both of our starters would be short.

We should be in good shape either way unless we give Moose a huge deal. If he resigns his cap number will drop a lot. We should be able to find a free agent for our OL or secondary before the draft.
