You do know that there is no rule in the PGA saying that the golfers HAVE to be men, don't you?

and you sound like a big 'ol whining wussy boy.

if ANY woman is good enough to play any professional sports against the men and hang on her own merits she should be allowed to. That includes baseball, basketball getting her clock cleaned in football or whatever.

If a woman can compete with the men why in the hell should she be FORCED to play in a woman's league. A woman that played middle of the pack on the mens tour is likely to earn less money than if she dominated the women's tour. Its just like Shauna Robinson driving NASCAR or a woman driving INDY or a woman being a top flight jockey. If they are good enough to play then let 'em.

But the last "man" that loses a spot on the tour and whines and cries because a woman beat him out ain't much of a man. That would be like coming home and crying to mommy and daddy because a big mean ol' girl beat you up in school.

Again, it's not about women versus men. Golf does not pit women versus men. It pits golfers versus the course. Annika is a golfer. Mike Weir is a golfer. Tiger Woods is a golfer. If she is a good enough golfer to play in a professional tournament, then she should be allowed to play. There are plenty of men who play on the PGA tour that never win anything. There are probably a bunch of guys out there that don't make a lot of cuts. What's the difference between her barely making or not making a cut than a collegiate player who has won a tournament and getting a sponsor's exemption to play one week on the tour and not making the cut. At least she was won a bunch of LPGA events.

I hate to state it this way, but think of Sorenstam as a triple-A pitcher. With her 13 wins last season (I think Tiger had 12 at his level) she has wominated her level of play. Give her a shot to play at the major league level and see how her game stacks up against the others at that "level." She has clearly dominated her level and as you would admit, the level of play on the PGA tour is markedly "better."

Let's see what the gap is (and unfortunately, she will be judged on Thursday and Friday, two rounds of golf... that's a lot of pressure to represent an entire gender in a sport that is so mental and up and down that it will not be fair.) If she plays well and makes the cut it does not necessarily mean she is good enough to play every week on the tour. If she does not make the cut, neither does that prove that she is not good enough to play on the PGA tour.

no my point is there is a designated league for men and women... if a man went to play on the LPGA tour he'd be turned away... that being true HOW is it fair that she can play on the PGA tour?? I said before if there was only ONE tour then I'd have no problem with her being there.

Great ariticle CharlotteDude. Only problem is that is comparing her LPGA scores on LPGA courses to the Colonial. The scoring system the article mentions at Olympic and Augusta and others, compares the SAME course, just different length. I see no true way to compare unless there were a course where BOTH tours played.

As for my opinion, I don't see her making the cut. I think the short game will hurt her this week. Really it all starts with the added distance on the approach, but I feel once around or on the green is where she'll falter. Say what you will about LPGA majors and such, she HAS NEVER seen greens like the PGA plays on. I think this will be the downfall.

IF HOWEVER, she can manage to get a good handle on the greens early in the week then we might just see a good showing. But in the end I don't see that happening, and she misses the cut.

The article left out 2 important points that will affect her game. The stimp on the greens she is use to playing on the LPGA come in at about 9 with 10 being very unusual and her scores have traditionally been higher with faster greens even on the LPGA. Not to say that she hasn't played fast greens but not on the LPGA. The Colonial will come in at 12 at least.
Plus the greens are very small in comparison to what she has played on the LPGA and very small compared to most PGA events. Just as most said, she will be having a lot of chips to get up and down. She ranks terrible on the LPGA with putts 6 to 12 feet and she should be looking at a lot of them for par.
To her advantage is the fact that there are only 2 par 5s but I believe they play over 600 yards and the fact that she is the best woman golfer ever. Her attitude is great and her ball striking is pure.

    good first round

Let me be the first to give her a WELL DONE on her first round. :applause:

To manys surprise she shot a solid 71, tho under the easiest of conditions at Colonial. Only missed 1 fairway, which I think most of us expected. But only missing 4 greens. I for one figured it to be more than that. The putting did look shaky all day with her never really looking like she could gauge the speed. But all in all, a HELLUVA round by the little lady. The short game could still do her in tomorrow, where it will most likely take par (or close) to make the cut.
