Definitely not ready for prime time. And I'm surprised -- with his intellect, I expected him to be much further along than he is.

Alex Smith sucks and will continue to suck. I might miss on other shit, but I'm 99.9% accurate when it comes to projecting NFL QBs.

I said he'd be good, but that I didn't see him being a superstar at the NFL level a la Manning. He might end up exceeding my expectations. I also said that I thought Leftwich had the bigger upside, and while he hasn't been terrible, that definitely hasn't proved true so far. Boller and Grossman were easy to call, and Gruden almost justified my praise of Chris Simms until he benched him again. I said Simms was Carson Palmer before his senior year when the light finally went on for Palmer and he started to really understand the game and read defenses.

Looking back over the list of QBs drafted, I thought Chris Redman would be better than he has been, and I had no clue that McNabb would become as solid a passer as he is. Other than that I've done pretty well.

Here's what I wrote about Smith in the magazine:
"Ignore all the comments on how smart Alex Smith is or how much character he has. While team officials spoke glowingly about Smith’s pre-draft workout with the 49ers, the only comments you should pay attention to were those from Brandon Lloyd and Arnaz Battle when they expressed surprise at how weak his arm was. That shouldn’t have come as a surprise to anyone, since it’s apparent from film review that Smith couldn’t throw a ball through wet tissue paper. Moreover, he didn’t grade high on accuracy either. Being an athletic genius will only get you so far at quarterback if you can’t throw, so Smith’s fantasy prospects are limited even though he’s likely to start from day one."

Seeing as you missed on Jeff Lewis, I guess he was the .1% allowed error rate.

    Just sayin'.

I didn't know who in the hell Lewis was coming out of college, which is what we're talking about. If we're going to throw post-draft evaluations into the mix, I'll take the blame on Lewis since that will also allow me to take credit for saying we needed to trade for the Patriots' third QB named Tom Brady after seeing how good he looked against us in a 2001 pre-season game. :supergrin

Didn't we read that Seifert liked Brady, but Musgrave felt he didn't have enough foot speed? That's about as bad as us thinking that Randy Fasani was "the second best QB in the 2002 draft."

Which is stupid. Beuerlein had none and the offense looked great. I didn't just like Lewis for the mobility, as a matter of fact I didn't care about it. I felt like he had a great deep ball and could check off. Didn't know he couldn't read a D.

Also didn't know that Musgrave is a dumbass, a shit leader, and needs at least one person above him who can tell him, nicely, that he's calling shit plays. He was deserving of criticism here as an OC, and was shit in Jacksonville. I also can't help but give him some credit for making something out of Beuerlein that he never was before, or after, and guess who's the QB coach for Brunell as he's starting to play well?

I guess, if you keep him away from the team, and keep him away from personnel issues, and just have him be with the QB and gameplan, he's not stupid.

I was at that Pats game. Thought Brady looked great. Liked him at UM, but never saw what the Pats got on the field.
