for the record, I never said you were wrong about Cam that I remember (not that I'm insinuating that post refered to me- I dunno). I have always been concered about him, though the homer in me (and used to real shity Panthers QBs) was holding out hope that the guy was gonna be at least much bettern we've had. He still may be, but he's never gonna be Brady, Kap, Wilson, or anywhere close. Id' certainly trade him for Wilson last year even in a heartbeat (but many would say that's just the NCSU homer in me). The more I see him, the more I hear him talk, I just don't think he's got it to be great. What's sorse, is we have no coaching to help him even be real good.

Cam Newton has no threat to his throne, and no amount of coaching will change that.

Newton's biggest problem, in my view, is that his lifelong mechanical deficiencies take over when things get tight. Legs saved him in college, giving him space to make plays. But the NFL is a game of inches - all in Hi Def - and Newton loses what little technique he has when his natural instinct is to flee to open space. Call is functional football claustrophobia.

Just once, I want to see Newton do what Derrick Anderson does fairly well: flick the ball. A throw doesn't have to be an all-out full windup every time. Wilson amazes me with his ability to 'drop' balls over coverage. He's short so he has to do the same thing Brees does in order to be effective. But Newton should own the open space between the lines and he doesn't because it's never been required of him. He's always had space.

Newton won't reach the 'next level' until he is forced to do so. And the only way to do that is to get someone in town that has a legitimate shot to usurp Newton's throne.

He's clearly here to do both.

But it would help if we begin to build around him.
