My favorite was when the outgoing staff in 1998 had Sean Gilbert with 60 tackles.

So this was a vet minimum kind of deal?

Draft saw time at weakside in Atlanta, but he's always been best in the middle. He'll be of use there later in the season (or sooner).

Yeah. I guess the upside to him is that he can play either spot, and could be a playmaker at either spot. Putting him in the middle would seem like a waste. I would be a little more encouraged about Ciurciu if he hadn't looked so lost in the start against Miami, and he's always seemed more comfortable in the middle, like Draft. If they chose to go with Adams/Seward at WLB, I guess I could live with that.

I think Ciurciu will look better coming into a season at WLB than learning it on the fly, but I hope we don't have to go with him much in base defenses anyway. If he sticks at WLB, then great. Good ST player. Rangy linebacker who shows heart, runs around a lot, doesn't end up achieving much (or didn't inside, anyway). IF WLB is Adams/Ciurciu, then we're a little undertalented, and undersized, but there's a lot of hustle, heart, speed there. Maybe that's what they're after. Adams/Seward probably lets Seward play a fair bit more than he would behind Davis (at either spot), and gets him worked into a bit of both spots potentially. I believe Seward can start, which I realize you don't, but I don't think anyone really wants him handed a job. Also, Adams gives us a vet other than Draft to make a call or two out there if needed. 3 experienced LBs isn't a ton, but it beats 2 MLBs.

    Would make it all clear:

If we get #88 for RMJ, I'd even give up #89 to get ahead of New England and take him (assuming DeAngelo isn't there, otherwise I'd move up and get him).

I do think he can be an effective starter, eventually. I would prefer to begin the season with someone more experienced (Adams), and work Adam in as we go along. Either way, I think he definitely has starting potential.

And if Carpenter is available, take him.

Carpenter's fine. I think there's a lot of overstating the need at OLB, though, and I don't know that the team's actively looking to spend a high pick on it.

You've said that before and you're still wrong. Yes, we'll be fine if we don't draft an outside linebacker in the first round or even if we don't draft one at all, but it's clearly one of our biggest needs. We currently have a guy who hasn't played OLB in years (Draft), a guy who started for the first time last year but is very small (Adams), a guy who has only been used as a blitzing linebacker so far (TD), and a guy who has just 4 NFL tackles to his credit (Seward). It's not a group that inspires a lot of confidence, and it's definitely short on size and strength. So no, we absolutely aren't locked into taking someone there, but it is very clearly a need. In fact, it's pretty obviously our biggest immediate need. No other position is as short on depth or experience.

We could use a player, potentially. Or we could go with what we have. It's not a "we absolutely must do this" thing, of course. It's not an "absolutely must have this player" thing. Carpenter's been kicked around a ton, but he's by far not the greatest or only alternative.

The team has been mentioned, and has spent a lot of time publicly talking with, two other positions that could be considered as big of a need or greater for various reasons.
