A white running back or a Hoover wannabe?

He looks like Troy Aikman on steroids.

 

He'd have a hard time breaking 3.5 YPC behind the San Diego line right now.

 

This almost makes me want to be white again.

 

I mean, I don't disagree with the white hype stuff you or P99 are putting out there, and I don't necessarily guarantee any level of success for him in the NFL, but he's got more than Shelton (who apparently lacked both drive and smarts) or Dayne (the most likely analogue for a big back without much speed). Will he be an elite WCO type fullback, or someone's backup RB like Lendale? I dunno. I don't see a breakaway threat in his future, though. He's obviously used for a couple things, not all of them.


As far as the original question? Sure, we could use him. We could put him in the Shelton role if we didn't have Shelton. That Shelton's also a breakaway guy, a complete back, is a luxury. But we do have him, and he's a better back. You put a Gerhart with a guy who doesn't have all his shit together and hope some of it rubs off, a lighter guy who needs a bigger compliment. But while Gerhart is the rare white athlete who looks the part that I do like at a skill position, I don't ever really know that he'll be that 1000 yard guy.

 

When I watch him run, I keep thinking about those Shelton highlights that everyone was drooling over. Maybe he will find a decent niche somewhere, but he's going to get knocked on his ass by the Chris Harris's of the world.
