Don Hudson, OBSERVER Columnist who was a co-host on WFNZ's PRIMETIME Show last week, vents his spleen on why the station should tone down their 'sexist' undertones. What is Don talking about   ? ? ? Is he mad that the show/callers didn't spend more time breaking down the upcoming WNBA season or the next stop on the LPGA Tour? Or perhaps he's mad at Pack that he didn't get Billie Jean King or Martina Navartalova on the show to talk about their careers  ? ? ? If he thought PRIMETIME was 'sexist', he better not turn in and listen to the MORNING SPORTS PAGE, where porn stars/strippers frequent the show on a somewhat frequent basis!!!!

DON HUDSON'S 'WFNZ needs to be more women friendly' RANT:

I think I hear violins in the air! If you don't like the programming at FNZ don't listen. Who gives a rat's ass about women's sports anyway? It's all garbage IMO. It also has hurt men's athletics in terms of taking away schollies and money!

Don't know what Hudson said, but I think he's an idiot for whining to a radio station that is upfront about what demographics it caters to.

Having said that, and having a 3-sport-star-athelete wife, I think some women's sports are great. Most are not worth watching, but college basketball, for fundamentals, is dead even with men's. That PG for UConn is a master at the one-hand look away pass. Unbeleeble.

don's point wasn't that they should talk about women's sports, but rather the station is sexist. others called in saying it promoted racism. packer got into it with one black man who said as much and packer STILL denied it. here was an obviously upset black man telling packer that his show was offensive to him and packer said, "no its not." -- unreal.

hudson called in to the show yesterday and said that he could care less about watching womens sports and that he doesn't watch them. he did say that wfnz is a sexist radio station. those are separate issues.

sds, how do you feel about the show/station regarding racial issues? is the qcb, as the caller contended yesterday, doing a disservice to fellow blacks by propogating an "acceptable station in life" for a black man from a stereotypical fnz listerner's perspective? i mean, he's a safe personality for the listeners (generally speaking). should he continue to play the dumb, poorly spoken black man who repeatedly puts down his wife on the air, just because that's what folks expect of him?

Agreed. Thanks for the clarification.

Aparently Don Hudson has nothing better to do with his time than write about WFNZ and Packman's show being a sexist outlet. IF things are so bad I think a more appropriate response from Don would be to wear a sundress and pink sandals and take up arms with his offended sisters and protest by not listening to WFNZ programing.

that wasn't don's point. he used to be a sportswriter and, in his opinion, thinks that if fnz cleaned up its act a little bit, it would generate a much broader listenership.

he praised packer's on-air presence. in fact, packer said that he talked with don about the story before yesterdayand that he didn't see anything wrong with it. in fact, packer said he was taken aback a bit by the flood of emails and whiner line calls.

it was a typical overreaction by a bunch of folks not smart enough to think before acting.

FNZ is pointed at a certain demographic and it always has been. They don't cater to women's sports or actively seek out women listeners. And the station seems perfectly happy with that. For my part I'm happy with the station as it is.

As to the racism and the QCB, does anyone think about Hayseed? The things said about the QCB being a stereotype could equally be said about the 'seed. Anyone remember the black hosts that are on the show? Ethan, Shawn, Ray, Blue etc..
All are educated and are great on air personalities..
