I wonder if the panthers are better suited for a 3-4 deff. our LBS are fast and Pep could be used like Shawn M. in SD.

This has been discussed many many times. I think we could probably run a 3-4 but if so we should have kept Jenkins. You need a good nose tackle in that scheme. Lewis is not well suited for that scheme. Kemo would work.

Anyway it is never going to happen unless we change coaches. I like the 3-4 when it is run correctly. I think it gives you more flexibility. You absolutely need three good DTs to make up your DL though. A DE in a 3-4 is similar to a DT in a 4-3. In a good 3-4 it is hard to run up the middle because you have three big guys clogging it up. It is hard to run around the edge because you have OLB who are big but faster than most 4-3 DEs. Pass rush is also usually good because you can bring any one of your four linebackers on the blitz at any time and not tip your hand.

If we had shifted to a 3-4 I would have wanted Jenkins on the nose with Kemo at one DE and a player not on the roster at the other DE. Peppers and our linebacker could handle it.

it was probably last done last offseason and using the search engine to find a thread on "3-4" is impossible. I love the 3-4 personally, Capers running it was somewhat a part of me becoming a Panthers fan.
