There's a component to having a player like Tolbert that I think we could really use in 2018. That doesn't necessarily mean that it has to be Tolbert. I talked about this in January in my thread about 21 personnel. A running back who can play receiver and a fullback who can efficiently carry the football, along with a QB who can run for 60 yards at any moment, creates massive problems for a defense. I actually think about it all the time.

I like this guy as a potential FB/RB hybrid.

As far as what we do in clock killing time, or when the "rubber meets the road" so to speak, I don't get why teams just don't use an extra lineman at FB. I see modern fullback as more of a matchup position. If you present your offense as 21 personnel, and you can run the ball efficiently with just enough blocking form FB and just enough inside running ability from your halfback, then you can really put the defense in a bind. Do you play base, and put a linebacker on McCaffrey? Or do you stay in nickle and keep giving up 5 yards per carry? I do think 13 personnel is the new jumbo formation of the NFL. If you need a yard, get the tight ends and/or extra OT on the field. I see 21 personnel as an avenue for more offensive creativity. Almost a more advanced, harder to defend version of the wildcat.

A three year contract seems pretty ludicrous. I think Kurt is a perfect stopgap option for a rebuilding team, but not a plug in starter for a contender. If he's Vaccaro's replacement, that's good news for the rest of the NFC South.
