I just came up with a way of thinking about the upcoming draft that makes me feel very good about where we’re picking. Look at it THIS way -

We traded our 2004 1st round pick for a Superbowl win and we get to pick FIRST in rounds 2 through 6 with a shot at Mr. Irrelevant at the end.:D

    31-32 for 26 isn't a big change.
Mr. Irrelevant will go to someone who gets a compensatory pick

yeah, I just wanted to make mention of that 7th round pick.)

Does anyone here have ANY faith left that last years 7th round picks (Young & Moore) will stick next season and prove to be worth a damn?

Young could. Considering how we are this year, I'd expect that Young won't see much time, though, and I hope we put someone young in the 4th spot. Doesn't have to be a #1 or #2, we need a TE more and we can't neglect D by any means. But we do need that third/fourth guy depending on his impact v/s Proehl, because we're old at receiver.

Moore? Be surprised. Goings is hard to root out of there and he's showing as an allright offensive asset. Right now he's our 3rd RB, not Smart, it seems.

I think we've put up thoughts about Troupe in this thread so I'll keep my comments brief. I wish that he had a little more speed, but as long as he's more in the 4.65 range and not the Seidman 4.8 range I'm fine with him.
Might be the most pressing need, depending on whether we keep mangum/wiggins, which we should keep Wig and we'll damn sure want to keep Mangum. Personally Wig has outplayed him.

    The thirty-six 2004 underclassmen & MORE!

This high quality crop (16 in particular) might help to push a handful of good seniors down into our range like Dansby, Vilma, Strait, Woods or Evans. If we don't have a shot at one of the 32 numbered players below in a need position for us then something will have gone very wrong.

    16 First round underclassmen -

1- Ben Roethlisberger Miami (Ohio) QB
2 - Larry Fitzgerald Valley Forge Military Academy (&Pitt) WR
3 - Shawn Andrews Arkansas OT
    4 - Sean Taylor Miami S
5 - Vince Wilfork Miami DT
6 - Reggie Williams Washington WR
7 - DeAngelo Hall Virginia Tech CB
8 - Kellen Winslow Miami TE
9 - Kenechi Udeze USC DE
10 - Michael Clayton LSU WR
11 - Chris Gamble Ohio State CB
12 - Kevin Jones Virginia Tech RB
13 - Steven Jackson Oregon State RB
14 - Tommie Harris Oklahoma DT
15 - Randy Starks Maryland DT
    16 - Sean Jones Georgia S

20 more juniors (many of which are top 60)-

    Matthias Askew Michigan State DT
    Kelly Butler Purdue OT
    Ahmad Carroll Arkansas CB

    16 First round SENIORS -

Let's not forget Seidman at the top of the 3rd either. If the draft were as cut and dry as you would like to believe it is y2 then it would "play out" perfectly for every team every year, but for better and worse it's apparently not all that simple a task. Some of us enjoy this part of the game and like to play around with it . . . if you're not ready to play yet don't be pissin in the sandbox. :apfbbt:
