    Here's a thought -

Going OT with the #1. Move Gross to LT, start another rook at RT. Save on Steussie's hit - maybe get a pick for Todd.

Jacob Rogers, Carlos Joseph, and if we're real lucky - Robert Gallery could come, and it'd be like old times for Nelson.

The cool thing about a scenario like this - Our trenches would be solid for some time. Ruck, Jenks, and Pepp are young and big time studs on the d-line. We don't have that youth and studliness on the O-line.

Also, it seems that OLB and CB are VERY deep in Free Agency.

    Just a thought.....

    Thank you, Thelt.
Getting one great OT is fine. Getting two is a bit much, when we could as easily get someone of impact.

Steussie's cap hit is give or take, be here or not be here. Why not take Joseph in round two, where he's actually rated by most, and then you could develop the guy? Not every offensive tackle that'll be worth a shit, is already a beast. As a matter of fact, most teams with good OLs make a killing on second day picks being developed and ready in two years - for instance, Indy, or even here (James).
Now, with an OT, and roughly a year to train him,
As well, having Steussie here, a vocal line leader that he is, teaching Gross and a rookie, then we'd have Steussie to depart and we'd then have three young line starters, four if Nelson ever comes Fromunda.

    No doubt.

Depends on what happens in FA, I think, too. Many were big on Kenyatta Walker until we signed Steussie. If we can grab a proven corner and a proven LB - we're good.

As far as LB - I wonder how the team will see this need - particularly considering the overwhelming support for Fields. Drafting OLB high might fuck up chemistry.....just a thought.

And not knocking a second round OT and benching for a year - but if we're pick 32, that's damn close! And if we wind up resigning Moose and Smith - 1st round seems high for WR, too.

Hard *for me* to 'hope' for a pick this early. Alot can happen - alot of contracts are up. Mangum, and then you have Seidman the gimp. TE might be worth a first. It's tough right now *for me*.

God I hope we win. It's so fucking cool to NOT be totally focused on the draft in January.

I hope he doesn't lose his jock on the turf with the noise.

    Steussie, that is.

    Agreed.
I think moving him to RT after the year would help. Plus, the pick would be a RT, allowing the pair to discuss what's going on out there directly.

Agreed, we don't necessarily need a first rounder at anything right now. One will have to go there, but pushing OT as primary option relieves us of any impact.

I'd prefer we do that with WR, BTW.

I think a big point to consider is that it's entirely possible that we go into this without expecting any picks to start *right now*.

TE seems the surest bet. With Seidman coming off injury, no matter what we do in FA (both of the others are FA), we should want a young guy.

    DAMMIT DAMMIT

    From GBN :
    # LSU CB Corey Webster will likely earn an extra year of eligibility and could return to school for another season. Webster, a partial qualifier coming out of high school, has been officially listed as a senior this year could be eligible to return next fall as he appears to be on track to graduate before the start of the 2004 college season. Webster, though, also still hasn't ruled out entering the upcoming draft
    # Canes' CB to stay in school...Miami junior CB Antrel Rolle has confirmed that he has decided to return to the Hurricanes for his senior season next fall.

Those were two guys that could have been decent possibilities for us. Shades of that “WR RICH” ’03 draft are starting to come to mind. Last year tons of great WRs were supposed to enter the draft and did not . . . the Panthers ended up taking one ineffective WR in the 7th rd. Is that going to happen with CB this year?
At least the tonnage of WRs will be there . . . if our guys have the brains to draft one this year, and preferably before the 7th round.(

    Tony Bua

Got a chance to see some tape on him while doing some FS prep work, guy's a converted LB for Arkansas who I really think would be a good fit here, been compared to Archuleta but I see some Sam Mills in him. anybody had a chance to see him?

    Been thinking...

    Could we actually draft BPA?

I'd rule out DE, Center, QB,FB and RB.

But we could really take anything that strikes our fancy beyond that in round 1. uncharted water for us?

Could. And yeah, that might include DT if the right one's there.
But, I continue to fear that we'll allow one major need to fall to draft day. Sure, it worked with Gross, but Nelson stands as byproduct.
