Jammer going with the third pick.
Sportsline.com and pro football weekly.

I'm surprised his stock has risen this much. It may be the safer bet to take Jammer at number 2.

We still BADLY need a DE. What DE could we get at 34? I'm still liking Peppers at 2, mainly b/c the depth at corner seems better than the depth at DE.

I get a bad feeling about Peppers holding out.

I'm kinda hoping we could trade down, maybe for a high first, second and third, maybe to the Cowboys or Jags. But still, we've only Got Rucker and Williams, and Edwards seems a big reach at #6 or #9.

I can't see passing Peppers.

The only way I see us passing on Peppers if it's a sure thing we get Jammer. With his (Jammer's) stock rising that high, I think that solidifies our stance on Peppers.

IMO the only way we get Jammer is if we are looking trade down. Of course, if Jammer goes #3 or #4, it makes Buchanon the pick I imagine. I guess I'm allright with that, the relative value of Jammer or Buchanon versus Peppers is equal once you add picks.

Yep, and our situation at Cornerback is dire indeed.

Anderson has a neck injury, which pretty much makes Jenkins, Cousins, and Harper our 3 CB's. That is a fucking nightmare, and it's worse than having Rucker and Williams as the starting Ends.

When the fuck is Anderson gonna get surgery?

Second round ends? The left end types at 34 will probably be Anthony Weaver and Ryan Denney. Denney's got the better measurables but is kinda stiff and hasn't yet been able to show he can use his strength consistently (benched 225*35 or 36 I believe). Weaver's the best player in the draft on the lines for getting off blocks, and he's strong enough, he's bigger (290 versus 270) and didn't run much slower (4.9 v/s 4.8), and can also fit at DT in our scheme. So he's the safer pick.

Alex Brown has the most upside of the right ends in theory but is too inconsistent and has fallen lower than our pick in value. Dennis Johnson is probably the best available if there, as a right end type. Either would be used situationally at first, and then a decision would be made about Rucker as time went on.

As far as later rounds' projects, Jarvis Green has fallen but can still be productive in the 4th, Akin Ayodele isn't anything more than a situational rusher. Grant Irons may turn out to be a good developmental pick. Either way we have two DEs right now, and as of now neither are under contract past this season. So picks will be made here, early and often.

We can live with Rucker and Williams in theory, if we had to get an Overstreet at the top of 3 or in the mid-2nd in trade down then it might be worth Jammer or Buchanon as a starter. FWIW they're talking to Emmanuel McDaniel again so we'll have three of the best nickels in the league, just no starters. I'm fine with Cousin starting actually, for a year, but you're helping me convince myself that Jammer's the way to go. If we could dangle Peppers in front of Detroit for a 2nd at the least it'd be worth it to end up with jammer and immediately improve the defensive backfield with the best physical DB to come out in years.

of course that's just from a team standpoint. I do think passing up peppers will be a nightmare in the situation of the average fan, but that'll be the same fan that'll be on Julius' ass when he's not taking the QB down twice a game, and we know how likely that is.

I'm torn really. I think in the end we might still be better off with Peppers/Rumph than Jammer/Johnson or so.

I'm thinking Peppers and then Rumph / Ross at 34. You've gotta hope that Anderson gets better and steps up. With our #1 luck, Ross / Rumph will wind up being better than Jammer or Sheppard.

Yeah, what's up with Cousins, Jenkins, and McDaniel? wtf? Hard to see any of them playing better than Evans, and you've gotta wonder who isn't gonna make it past training camp. No way we hang onto Anderson, harper, Jenkins, Cousins, and McDaniel into the season.

They're all win-win b/c of the low signing bonuses, though. Fox must be doing a good job of selling *enthusiasm*.

Still, Cousins/Rumph seems pretty scary for the 2 starting corners. You've gotta anticipate alot more focus on blitzing from Fields and Peppers, maybe even Minter. hmmmm.

Evans is fast running out of options, the only team that I've seen interested in him was Minnesota. They turned atound and signed Chavous (one of our early targets). Evans being cut was strictly a money move and had less to do with his performance. Anybody here willing to resign him at a cheaper price after the draft should we fail to aquire a decent CB?
