Checkers beat Augusta 4-3 in a shootout last night in Augusta.

They play again tonight at Cricket.

4-3 is a shootout? I was wanting to learn more about hockey but if 4-3 is a shootout maybe I'll stay ignorant. :laugh1:

Without me having to go look it up, why aren't they playing pro hockey this year?

    What is Cricket?

3-3 tie at the end of the 3rd period.

    Overtime and no one scores.

Shootout determines the winner. Shootouts are rare and are the fucking BEST! Each side sends out their best shooters for a 1 on 1 with the goalie.

Whoever scores the most, wins the game.

Cricket is the arena where they play.

The NHL is in a lockout similar to the one MLB had a few years back.

Thanks. I was afraid shootout meant a lot of goals in the game. :xyzthumbs

So is the season totally off for the NHL, or just gonna be shortened?

Don't know, don't care. Long as I got my boys in town, I'm ok.

S.S., there are a number of issues that led to this years lockout. It's explained in this thread

And to tell you the truth, 4-3 is pretty much a shoot out these days. There are too many small market teams that cant pay the skilled players so they resort to clutching and grabbing to win. Unfortunately a number of teams have followed suit. The Rangers have not, they care too much about the fans, so they are willing to pay to have the most competitive and entertaining team on ice.
