    announced tom. is Rustly LaRue.

I know the majority of you could give a shit, but I thought X and HP would be interested.

To my knowledge his only experience is the Rusty LaRue basketball camp that he puts on each year. I am happy for him and his family though. They won't have to keep going to Russia for him to live the dream.

BTW - He's the new coach at Greensboro College, not Guilford College.

Thanks Wossa. They mis-spoke on the local news last night. To be honest that makes a lot more sense. I have never heard of Greensboro College.

Most people haven't Al, it's a tiny blip in Greensboro with about 1300 students located between UNCG and downtown. LaRue is a competitor and this will be a good start for him, while keeping him close to home near his family, I think he's a lot like Bobby in that respect.

Homecoming on court: LaRue takes over at GC

GREENSBORO -- Rusty LaRue's basketball career took him to many places, but his first head coaching job brought him back to Greensboro. LaRue was officially introduced as the Greensboro College men's basketball coach Thursday at a news conference held on the campus.

"I'm overjoyed with the opportunity," LaRue said. "I can't say enough about getting the opportunity to start my coaching career here at Greensboro College."

LaRue, a 1992 graduate of Northwest Guilford High School, attended Wake Forest where he played basketball, football and baseball. LaRue became the first athlete in the Demon Deacons' history to play three sports in the same year (1994-95). He graduated in 1996.

"Obviously I'm from around this area," LaRue said. "I grew up in Kernersville, went to high school at Northwest Guilford and went to college at Wake, so this is my home and this is where I love to be."

Greensboro College finished second in the USA South Conference last season. LaRue already has an idea of the type of basketball he would like the Pride to play in 2004-05.

"Hopefully we'll play an exciting brand of basketball with a transition game, get up and down the floor and play with the type of intensity and the type of determination that I played with when I played," LaRue said.

Shaun Harris, a rising senior shooting guard, looks forward to playing the up-and-down game that LaRue favors.

"For all of the returning players, that's the kind of style we like," Harris said. "We're trying to find a style with a lot of up and down. We know it's going to take a lot of work to get to that potential to run up and down the court and a lot of conditioning."

LaRue was a member of the '98 NBA champion Chicago Bulls. He looks forward to passing on what he learned from the professional ranks.

"A lot of these guys aspire to that," LaRue said. "Even at the Division III level, everybody wants to make it to the NBA and I think the experience I had playing alongside guys like Michael Jordan and the type of work ethic and determination they showed -- I can use that as an example to these guys."

Harris said: "It's exciting because he has experience in the NBA and he played in college at Wake Forest. He's also from around this area so it can be a good thing for the college to get the best players in this area to come here instead of going somewhere else."

LaRue has coached AAU teams but has no experience coaching at the college or professional ranks.

"Anytime that you start into something new like this, it's a challenge," LaRue said. "You're a little bit nervous but you're also excited because you're getting the chance to prove that you can coach just like I had to prove that I could play."
