Local favorite sportscaster

And to answer the original question, I think Ira Cronin is the best sportscaster in the Charlotte. He's got the best delivery style, and he's a nice guy to boot.

I'd rate Chuck Howard second, Harold third, and Solarte fourth.

Out of the broadcast stations, WSOC seems to do the best. I don't think the other stations sent a crew out to the Panthers road games this season outside of the playoff run. As mentioned before, WSOC still did this in the team's down seasons.


The thing with WCCB . . EEEEEEEEEEEEERrrrrrrrrrrrrr, FOX CHARLOTTE is that though they are the station of the Panthers, they never sent their reporters on the road. Their sports department is really on a shoestring budget IMHO. Do they ever send a reporter out for interviews outside of the Panthers? Their sports report is about 2 mins. and change; not nearly enough time to get deep into a subject . . . Their nightly reports are about 3 scores & their nightly commentary and that's about it . . . I would think that in a market this size and with so much stuff going on, they would have at least 3 guys in their sports department. I wish Bahakel would put a little bit more money into their operation (but then again, he has the CBS** station he owns in Columbia doing their news at FOX CHARLOTTE studios so he doesn't have to spend money to upgrade that station to a digital signal . . . Talk about cheap . . . )


BTW, I think Rich Brenner with FOX8 in the Triad is the best sportscaster in NC. They do a 30 min. show every weekend night and they have 4 reporters. Not bad for a market where pretty much, minor league teams & Wake Forest are the only main sports in the area (plus, being owned by Rupert Murdoch himself doesn't hurt either ** !!!!!!).


FOX8 was ABC statioin in the Triad for years up to about 10 years ago, when** previous station owner Chris Craft (?) was bought out by FOX and the affiliation switched. Just so you know . . . .

My bad . . . . Solarte is #1, followed by Bergeron/Snyder on FOX CHARLOTTE . . . Little is OK on WBTV and I could care less about Harold Johnson on WSOC . . .

Mike Solarte is the best sportscaster in this market.

I actually liked Chris Justice (ch 6) when he did Sports. Paul Cameron (ch 3) didn't do it for me, neither did Brett McMillian (ch 9).

 

That's funny, I didn't see ya'll in Arizona when the Panthers won their first ever NFC South Title. :xyzthumbs Anyway, I'm just pickin', ya'll have good people over there and you are as commited as the news department will let you be.

Bahakel owns the ABC Affiliate in Columbia, WOLO. I don't understand your digital upgrade comment...WOLO-DT is 5 MegaWatts on channel 25.
