Politically motivated angst. They see Tillman's death as a martyrdom being used to defend the war, so they take that irrational view of his service, invert it, and demean what he did. That's pretty much all there is to it.

His logic is incomplete. He argues that Tillman wasn't defending our country, but he forgets that Afganistan was the home of the Taliban and Al Queda, the launching pad for 9-11. I mean, there's a slight case to arguing Sadaam Hussein was not much of a threat to the U.S. (more of a threat to Israel and other Middle-East countries), but the activity in Afganistan is directly linked to protecting the U.S. He was particularly acting to seek out Al Queda and Al Queda-sympathetic groups that could generate further terrorist attacks against the U.S. and our allies.

Even with the above aside, you've got to understand the military system. The soldier trusts those above to make the right decisions about what should be done to protect the U.S. The soldier does what needs to be done once the decisions are made. Tillman's decision to enlist was clearly made on a sense of self-sacrifice for his fellow countrymen. Even if this guy thinks the military activity which led to Tillman's death was unjustified, he should direct his criticism towards the higher-ups who made the decisions to go into Afganistan. Tillman was doing his job, relying on his trust in higher military authorities to make the right decisions. If his loss was fruitless (which I do NOT think it was) then that puts blood on the hands of higher ups.

Christ said there is no greater love than that a man lay down his life for his friends. This guy sacrificed himself for friends and countrymen. Similar values are found in all the major world religions - Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, and Buddhism. His sacrifice is honorable from just about any (legitimate and logical) perspective I can think of.

E-mailed. Of course he wasn't around for Vietnam when a lot of us learned you can hate a war but you shouldn't hate the soldiers fighting.

I cant help but feel like a lot of the anti war crowd feels the same way as this jerk off, they are just afraid to say it. A lot of these types think America is evil and that guys like Tillman are bullys who only want to join up so they can abuse someone. I think they lump all of our guys in the same bunch as those few bad apples who were seen in those pictures abusing those Iraqi prisoners......

I feel a little of Colonel Jessup coming over me so I will stop now...
