Anyone have any experience with the Netgear MR814 (Wireless) Router?

I'm trying to help my brother get his home network going but we can figure out why none of the PCs cannot find the printer on the network.

If we log into the router via Explorer - through the system admin you can tell the router is seeing the printer.

We have an IP reserved for the printer (192.168.0.6) and if you hit that IP from any PC in the house it brings up the printer's admin page like it should.

But try going to Add a Network Printer and we have tried everything but the printer still isn't showing up on the network.

    Any suggestions?

You prob need to type in the printer address rather then being able to see it on the network.

What kind of printer is it? And it's networked directly to the router?

Damn... I know exactly what you need to do, but its aggrivating as hell to explain... for starters though I'm gonna assume your Router has a built in print server or either the printer has a built in print server.

If it does and you have an IP address like you said this is what you need to do. (I'm gonna tell you via Windows XP because that's what I'm on currently and its the easiest way for me to follow through and expain it.)

Step 1- Open the Printers Folder
Step 2- Select to Add a Printer
Step 3- Click Next on the wizard
Step 4- You want to add a Local Printer (Make sure to remove the check in the box that says "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play Printer"
Step 5- The next step you're selecting a port. Choose "Create a new port".
Step 6- In the drop down list next to Type of port select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and then click NEXT. (That will open the Add standard TCP/IP Port Wizard)
    Step 7- Click Next
Step 8- Here's the problem. You can insert the IP address without problem, but the Port Name you never mentioned. You're gonne have to get this info from your Print Server that I mentioned earlier... without that I can guide you much more beyond this.

When you put in the IP addresss, Windows will automatically create a port name that you can, I think, rename, but it shouldn't be necessary to regular IP printing. I don't ever do anything special with the port name on server print shares.

    Good instructions, Brane.

Sorry for not explaining in futher detail....

Y2B - actually the printer is a Ricoh 2600N. It is connected to the router via ethernet (cable).

A desktop PC connects to the router by ethernet cable.

A separate laptop connects to the same router by wireless.

All machines are running XP Pro - no print server is set up.

I had been trying to set up the computer by using the Add Printer -> then choosing one of the two network (or internet) options because I assumed the Plug and Play was for direct connection (USB, Parallel, etc) only.

The printer isn't showing up when I browse the network connections, no name, no IP, nada.

I can ping it from any PC with no problem - or access it's config page from any PC.

Brain - I think I understand what you are referring to now. I just need to set it up on both PCs using P&P?

No remove the P&P option and set it up manually as a local printer

In other words, create a local port that points to the IP address of the printer.
