Here and now is still early in the signing period. We may very well lose out on Vincent and Taylor. We may have no intention on spending that kind of coin on the secondary. My sense of it is that Fox looks about as much at the mental as he does the physical capabilities.
I don't think he sees 50% difference in the mid guys and the top guys. I think when spending on players you have the diminishing returns thing....where you can spend half again as much to get 10% more player or twice as much and get 5% more. There is a point where the value is good, and then there's the point where it's not.

Yeah that one is hard to figure. I wanted to keep Jeno myself. The only thing I can think of, is it may be versatility or the mental aspect of the game. Jeno was slow to get going and he didn't show much unless he stayed at the same spot. Versatility seems to be a growing theme here.

So we are willing to overpay aging, versatile, smart, but nondominant lineman that struggle in pass protection, but not invest in the secondary.

    hmmmmm

We have yet to make our investment secondary yet this year, so I can't answer that until we are done spending. We may grab a corner or a safety 1st in the draft.
As to your description of Meadows, I haven't seem him play...I do like experienced linemen though. I read he had a couple of injuries and that is concerning. Did we overpay? The Jury's out. Is there a central site that lists what tackles are getting?

Some people live and die by the philosophy that football begins and ends in the trenches...Based on the focus to both sides of the line during his tenure, Fox appears to be a follower of that path...

Judging recent actions and also on things he has said this season, I think John finds the success of the defensive backfield is a direct result on what happens up front.
