CHARLOTTE -- Most of the Carolina Panthers negotiations with their own free agents this offseason have been amicable, but one has taken a turn.
The agent for starting left guard Jeno James said Tues- day talks with the Panthers were at a standstill, and he ex- pected his client to test the free-agent market beginning March 3.

"At this point, we're going to go see what's out there," agent Drew Pittman said Tuesday. "They were open about the fact they want Jeno back, and that he'd be a big loss. But they have to decide who they want to pay.

"Jeno's going to get paid, it's just too bad it doesn't look like it's in Carolina, because that's where he wants to stay."

You pick a guy up off the scrap heap, give him a chance to start, help him resurrect a failing career, and then he cops a 'tude. The sickening part is that some of these guys will ditch a team just to make an extra $500k or so on a $20 mil contract.

This stuff always makes me hate pro sports. Until kickoff on opening day, that is.

he's going to see what the market will pay him. he evidently thinks the panthers are low balling him. we'll see what other teams offer him. I don't think copping an attitude is what he is doing....maybe the panthers are low balling him...

Sounds like an agent feeding the press for negotiation purposes. Hoping that they'll panic, see that he "wants to test", and then add 15% to the top to keep him.

Which they won't. But honestly, I love what Jeno brings and all, but what market value does he have? Not a ton of people know what he brings, most linemen aren't worth that much coin, and chances are we'll have a chance to match any reasonable offer. There are other guards out there, there weren't going to be kickers out there and I'm worried we're not going to find a safety out there of the same caliber.

Nobody on that line hustles like Jeno. I don't want to lose our two guards from the Super Bowl starting line.

And that agent talking doesn't sound at all like Jeno. He's a very shy, grateful, nice dude.

Fox and the boys won't and should'nt pay Jeno anymore than he is worth. He's replacable if the wants big $$. I hate it too, but fuck Jeno if he's looking for the farm.
