I think he was getting reaquainted with an old friend - Mr. Johnny Walker Red.
I hate that. He was my first football hero.

    Namath fumbles interview

Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath is still beloved by Jets fans for his famous guarantee of winning the Super Bowl nearly 35 years ago. He should hope his words on national television last night are not as memorable.
When Namath was interviewed by ESPN's sideline reporter Suzy Kolber in the first half of last night's game, he praised Jets quarterback Chad Pennington before lapsing into a rambling, slurred speech.

Asked what it meant to watch the Jets struggle this season, Namath replied:

"I want to kiss you. I couldn't care less about the team struggling. What we know is that we can improve. Chad Pennington, our quarterback, missed the first part of the season and we struggled. We're looking to next season."

Namath then concluded the interview with another amorous overture to Kolber: "And I want to kiss you."

A clearly miffed Kolber replied by saying: "Thanks, Joe. I'll take that as a huge compliment."

In the broadcast booth, where Mike Patrick, Paul McGuire and Joe Theismann were calling the game, Theismann said, "Joe's just a happy guy."

Neither Kolber nor the rest of the broadcast team were available for comment after the game.

Namath was at last night's game as part of a celebration of the Jets' All-Time Four Decade Team. Namath jogged out to midfield during halftime, as he and fellow former Jets Don Maynard, Mark Gastineau, Joe Klecko and others were cheered.

I guess some women just don't like being treated like Playboy bunnies. Who would have figured?
