NO CHANGE IN CAROLINA; DAVIS NOT EXPECTED TO PLAY...
    Posted Saturday December 20, 2003 @ 09:00 PT

According to reports out of Carolina this morning, Stephen Davis did not practice again on Friday -- meaning he didn't hit the practice field all week. Still listed as questionable, Davis is officially a "Dreaded Game-Time Decision."

However, the consensus among those who follow the team closely continues to point toward DeShaun Foster lining up as the starter when the Panthers host Detroit tomorrow.

According to the Sports XChange, the fact that Carolina will be without a handful of regulars doesn't mean they aren't interested in getting a win to keep their momentum going.

And that lends itself to a conservative game plan, eating time off the clock in big chunks. Look for Foster to handle the bulk of the load on offense with Rod Smart spelling him on occasion.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't hesitate to start Foster against the Lions if I had him on my roster.

    Also of interest. ...

The Panthers have added wide receiver Walter Young to their injury report for the week. Young, a rookie, is listed as questionable with a wrist injury, meaning that veteran Kevin Dyson likely will suit up for the second week in a row.

Dyson dressed but didn't play in last Sunday's game in Arizona. It was the first time he suited up for a game all season.

If there was any time to not be so damn conservative and try something new it is now.

Not exactly. We're going to have our 2nd and 3rd stringers in, but Detroit is going to have their non-injured starters in. Of course, their starters are probably equal to our 2nd stringers!:D

But, from a play-calling standpoint, you're going to probably be right that it will be like preseason.

I'm kinda excited to see Foster get a bunch of carries against a mediocre defense...

Foster`s timing just isn`t there with the OL. More reps equal better timing ?

It may be a good test running agasinst the lions.

My buddy from Mich. says that the lions are real good at stopping the run... and they suck at pass defending.

Maybe we'll see dyson ketch some passes?

Exactly....but that's a good thing. A mini-preseason before the play-offs is exactly what this young team needs, plus a couple of weeks to get healthy.

We kicked ass in preseason walking away, and had a nice little winning streak to start the season.

A couple of games without that pressure to win, it's perfect

How the hell did Young get hurt? He doesn't ever play. Hell, Hankton's smoking that guy.

Right now, Foster's a fine open field runner. Otherwise he's crap. Same thing happened to Biakabutuka there after a while. I think some of it's mental.
