...recommended temperatures for pentium 4 cpu's? I think mine is running too hot, but I can't find what the nominal temp is supposed to be (it's currently at about 53 degrees Celsius).

That's kind of high. My friend has a P4 2.4 GHZ overclocked to 3.2 and has his at around 26 degrees C....watercooled :D

Temps should never be above 60 but I NEVER go over 50 degrees with mine or any of my friends who have P4's overclocked. The higher the temp, the higher the stress on the chip leading to less performance.

But other than that, Pentium's are pieces of shit. Be a man, go AMD :D

Gonna redo the fan/thermal paste setup. Sad thing about it is, this is the first (and probably last) Pentium I have ever bought. Before, everything I built was AMD. I got the Pentium 4 cause it smoked the AMD in most benchmarks I've seen. I have a completely stock setup: stock heatsink/fan, stock thermal paste, no overclocking, nothing. Dunno what the hell is wrong with it.
