Come Sunday evening, two long baseball traditions will come to an end. I am making reference to Veteran's Stadium and Jack Murphy Stadium (n.k.a Qualcomm Stadium). With this being the last season for both San Diego and Philly in their respective homes, it will draw an end to the architechual trend of the late 1960's and 1970's, known as the "Stadium".

Other famous baseball Stadiums included Riverside Stadium in Cincinnatti, Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh and Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta.

Some baseball greats have called these facilities home throughout the years including Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, Tony Gwynn, Willie Stargell, Dale Murphy and many many others.

In today's world of short field and fan friendly parks, it was cool ro be able to revisit the Old School and the events that made those places special. That physically will be gone after Sunday, but mentally it will hold forever.

Anybody have special moments that they can remember from the old days, please feel free to share those on this thread.

Thank God those shit holes are closing down. Really old school was the Mistake by the Lake in Cleveland.

Double use stadiums for football and baseball. Artificial turf. I'm sad they're gone.

Busch stadium in St Louis is still around, although they ripped the turf up. There is a replacement stadium in St Louis for 2006, though.

Geez, how could I forget Busch?

As far as the turf goes, The Vet has the worst reputation of being horrible. Pittsburgh didn't have as many problems as Philly, but it was less than ideal conditions as well. The Murph and Fulton County Stadium were the only two that had natural grass, I wonder why they were different from the others?

Now, if they could just rip up the Cardinals as well and send them to some landfill somewhere...

    :D
