Check this out. Is this because we came back to beat them from a 17 pt. deficit? Or, is JDR not who they thought he was?

Jags Opener to Be Blacked Out on Local TV
    Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - For the first time in their nine-year history, the Jacksonville Jaguars will have their home opener against the Buffalo Bills blacked out on local TV.

The Jaguars fell about 8,000 tickets short of the ticket sales needed by Thursday to air the game live within a 75-mile area of Jacksonville.

It is the fifth regular-season blackout for the team, but without the help of local businesses, it looks like it could be the first of several this season.

After last season, Jack Del Rio replaced Tom Coughlin as coach, in part to help the Jaguars re-energize their sagging fan base. Season-ticket sales slipped from 67,000 in 1998 to 54,000 last season. Even with an intense marketing push, the number is expected to stay around 54,000 this year.

Part of the problem is the size of Alltel Stadium. Remodeled in the early 1990s for the Jaguars, it was still fitted with 76,877 seats to handle the big crowds that come for the annual Florida-Georgia college game. Not counting military, disabled, club seats and suites, the Jaguars have to sell about 58,000 of those tickets to have the blackout lifted. That means about 6 percent of a metro population of a little more than 1 million must attend.

Last year, the Jaguars were facing a number of blackouts, but a grocery store chain bought the excess tickets and gave them out for free to guarantee sellouts.

This year, no corporation will come to the rescue, Jaguars officials say. The only home games that appear to be tough tickets this season are the Oct. 12 game against Miami and the Nov. 30 game against Tampa Bay.

Didn't one of the Jag boards try to rag on the Panther fans for apparently not selling out the first game (though we did and the blackout was lifted)? I'd love to revisit that thread to see how those individuals would respond now.

And 8,000 tickets available, that's harsh!

That board gets like zero traffic. Kind of like Jacksonville.
