Fox, I hope, will do the best thing for the team, which probably means he keeps Weinke ... even if he doesn't start him immediately. We could go to a world of hurt in a hurry without him. Peete is old and brittle besides immobile. Chances are good, he will miss games. At that point, you really don't want Fasani as your backup. It may be bad luck for Wenke that he's not the coach's fav here, but there's no guarantee he'd start somewhere else or even be the #2 guy.

Weinke has looked good and I'm with ya that I'm not a Peete fan. Still it's not uncommon to have backup QBs look good in preseason against the other team's backups. Seems to me that even some guy named Lewis looked good in some Denver preseason games (and practices). Not saying that I wouldn't too be in favor of going with Weinke, just that ya should chill and see how things play out. I know he can be trying, but put a little more faith in our coach. If Weinke is the best guy here, he'll get his opportunity ... just maybe not as soon as you'd (we'd) like but probably sooner here than some team that has a decent starter. I realize father-time is working against him but still I think he continues to work hard and handle himself like a professional.

The problem is, I played for a guy like Fox in HS. I know the first impression, only impression needed type. They always say the right things, but when it comes time for putting words into deeds, they won't unless somehow forced to. I started our second game and never went back to the bench. I was constantly the highest graded lineman we had at both C and G (played both during the year). Not to bad considering I wasn't coach's pet. Did the coach ever tell me he was wrong about me? I'm still waiting on that some 25 years later. This whole thing boils down to Fox's ego...he can't imagine being wrong about a player. The argument that Weinke is doing it against 2nd and 3rd team D's is muted by the fact that that's all Fox will allow him to play against. Guess we'll never know for sure the way things are going will we?

I somehow remember Fox saying last year that Walls was a very important part of our team. We see what that got Walls just for asking to be used in the passing game more. Last time I saw him, he was wearing green and gold. Fox is a don't cross the boss or you'll be tossed kind of guy when some one questions him. He's got to be right about every choice he makes or he somehow sees it as losing total control. He hasn't seen anything yet if the team comes to the conclussion that they've been lied to.

    Agreed.

There is zero chance for a trade. Fasani plays like a high school kid still.

Chances are pretty good that all 3 QBs will see action. Peete's old and brittle, Jake isn't that big, Weinke (though seemingly more mobile) is a target with a history of shoulder problems.

I do think its Fox who has some problem with Weinke. If Jake had played like Weinke, he'd likely be starting.

Or maybe not. Jake, though dwarfed somewhat by Weinke's play, has clearly outperfored Peete himself. Yet he's still 2.

    JETS in the market...

They need a solid #2, because Vinny will not last the season, and Chad will not come back. Weinke could be trade bait this coming week. Herman Edwards likes QB's that can go vertical, and Chris can do this.

Umm, no offense intended, but don't assume that Fox is just like your HS coach. Fox is a guy who has risen through the ranks and earned his way to the top by bringing out excellent play in players. Granted, its always been Defensive players until now. But still, an NFL coach is more likely to have savvy, honed personnel skills and decision making than a HS coach.

Proactive is noactive in this case coach Fox is going to do what coach fox is going to do, all we can do is wait till sept 7 to see what unfolds. From this preseason we have however learned that the panthers have the best scrubs in the league.

What, are you projecting a QB by committee with John Fox putting on his jacket and walking to the huddle while QB's warm up in the Bullpen? I thought we didn't get Steve Spurrier?

Weinke has played the best by far. It obvious that he is more focused and definately sharp.

He should start. Every single time the guy has come in the game - the Panthers have moved down the field. He is in command of the offense and the guy has hit almost 80% of his passes!!!

Weinke should start with Delhomme and Peete as backups.
    Won't happen though.

the most baffling part is that I never thought I'd see Weinke be that accurate or complete that many passes. He had one game last season that was this good - 11/14 I think at Dallas - but was nowhere near that accurate the year before or since - till now.

Is it just me or does he seem to have lost some weight since last year?

He looks trim and he's more mobile due to that fact IMO.
