This was the guy that we got in the 7th round that I really felt like was a steal at the time. I thought he would be pushing Hoover for the starting spot, but is this gonna be the second straight year we cut the FB that we've drafted. I haven't heard anything out of him and he certainly didn't show anything Saturday night to warrant any talk. Anyone know anymore on this situation?

No, I've been high on him from the start but haven't heard squat so far. I'm hoping that he will pan out too but unless he can at least turn some heads blocking he won't stick.
It's still early and he should get plenty of opportunities.

Remember guys, it's not Hoover that Casey is really competing against, rather Goings. Hoover is entrentched in the starters role, so the battle for Hoover's backup is really what you are referring to. If Fox is as much on this versatility issue as he seems to be, then Nick not only has the experience on Moore, but the TB capabilities to boot. Not knocking Moore, but a 7b cut is much easier to swallow than the 5th round pick we wasted on Kyle Johnson last season.

my sentiments exactly, 45. I'm a big Nick Goings fan and I wouldn't expect Fox to cut Goings just to justify NOT cutting (or trading?) a late pick.

Now, to be fair, I don't follow Stanford and never heard of Moore before the draft, so maybe he's the stud some folks here say he is. If he's that much better than Nick as a pure FB than maybe he deserves the job.

But Hoov is young and tough; do we really need to groom his replacement already or is it better to keep the experienced, versatile guy (Goings) around since Fox likes to be able to show a lot of different running schemes?

    Casey Moore.

Moore has been playing with a cast on his hand he broke opening weekend, I remember him doing pretty well catching the ball even with the cast. I'll keep on eye on him this weekend and give you a report on Tuesday.

    Re: Casey Moore.

that's probably why he saw limited time in the game... the cast is still "fresh"

I personally don't see any need to keep Goings. He is ok, but I'd hold on to Moore and let him develop. Hoover is the starter but we do need a backup.

i understand that, but coming out of the draft i felt that he could compete w/ hoover for the starting job. i've just been a little disappointed to date.

Hoover has improved every year. Hell, the guy was really blocking well the other night. He seems to be very dedicated to becoming a complete FB and although he is a bit small - he is a very good player and getting better.

Hoover deserves any props we can give him. He has worked very hard.
