that reminds me of the sec in football...stacked heavily in one division

why UCONN, what can they bring other than basketball? its already a basketball conference, so they don't need them for that. they're football program just went D1 this past year, correct? i'm just curious to know why UCONN. i'm not following up too close on this, so could someone enlighten me as to the reasons they are in the mix?

The State of CT is building a new 40k seat Football Stadium in nearby East Hartford called Renteschler Field . . . . It should be opening up this year. The team will move up to BIG EAST fulltime by 2005 . . .

I can see why they are pissed about 1/3 of the BIG EAST Leaving . . I mean, how many folks are going to come out and watch scrub DI teams at their new stadium  ? ? Only reason why I see the ACC going after UCONN is because this would give them the entire New England TV market (Boston is #1, Followed by Hartford/New Haven). You could always split the JP Sports/Raycom Football package where you could have the Northern based ACC teams (BC vs. UConn, Syracuse vs. Maryland) on one feed and the Southern based school on another (Clemson vs. Ga Tech)

    Better Idea

Virginia Tech to the SEC, along with Louisville.

Swap South Carolina for Clemson in the SEC.

ACC adds UConn, Miami, Syracuse, Boston College, and Pittsburgh.

What remains merges with Conference USA.

The ACC is purty darn clever.

They know that VT is desparate to get in the ACC if the Big east goes down.
They know we are part of the lawsuit.
They know we stupidly said we'd pass up an invite before - to "save the Big East". Or some stupid reason like that. We are now saying what we meant was we wouldn't accept an offer if it was VT instead of Syr or BC.

So they extend us on offer NOW.

If we decide to go, it makes US out to be the bad guys. It also relieves all the political pressure on UVA.

Beautiful. When do I get to play FSU in B'burg?

Someone told me that Swofford is now wanting to talk to Notre Dame as the possible 14th team to even out the con. But they would have to join in all sports, including football.

Now would make for one hell of a con. with all sorts of bargining power at the TV table.

    DIV 1
    Notre Dame
    Virginia Tech
    Virginia
    Maryland
    Syracuse
    Boston College
    Wake Forest

    DIV 2
    FSU
    Miami
    G.Tech
    Clemson
    UNC
    Duke
    NC State

Y'all can forget about breaking up the big four. That ain't gonna happen. Notre Dame ain't gonna give up their TV contract either.

Scheduling would be along the lines of what the SEC does now. Six games in your division, a permanent opponent from the other division, and rotate with two others from the other division. The NCAA allows for a 12 game schedule, you just wouldn't be playing as many creampuffs.
