49ers | Stokes Will Be Gone - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
9:31 PT: Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports the San Francisco 49ers have given WR J.J. Stokes permission to pursue a trade. If a trade cannot be made, he will be released after June 1 to reduce the team's salary-cap hit this season. Stokes is scheduled to earn base salaries of $2.25 million in 2003 and $5 million in 2004, so it is doubtful anyone will trade for him.

I know that we've already got quite a few WRs, but would he be worth going after after he gets released on June 1? Maybe a replacement for Moose "OhMyhammy!" Muhammad?:feedback:

I always thought Stokes was "soft" - too much like Moose for my taste. Even out from under the shadow of Rice, now it's Terrell Owens. Pittsburgh talked about getting him a year or so ago - but found they had a shorter version of him - Troy Edwards.

I'd rather take a shot a WR or two in the draft, plus what we already have. Stokes reminds me of Donald Evans, without that one big season.

I think he could still be pretty good in the right system. He needs to play in a WCO though. Let him go to a team like Denver and he will probably be productive. I do not think his skills are a good fit for what we do though. If we are going after another wide out he needs to be a fast deep threat.

He plays in a WCO now and isn't productive. What makes you think he could go to Denver and be any better? Espicially considering scattershot is now thier QB.
