okay here is the background info...

    1) We are pursuing Kevin Dyson at WR

    2) Should we get him that would MOST LIKELY make him the #2 Reciever and bump Steve Smith either to 3 or to 4.

    3) There has been some trade specualtion that Carolina MAY have a trade in the works that includes sending Steve Smith and the #9 overall pick to Chicago for the #4.

What do you think the odds are that Fox/Hurney have their eyes on someone OTHER than a QB or a WR with that #4 pick??? One of our biggest needs after filling some of these holes is CB. And with the 4 slot there is one of the CBs available this year. Terrance Newman is not only considered the best CB coming out this year, but possibly one of the top 3 players in the overall draft. Furthermore with the loss of Smith, Newman also provides the ability to return kicks, and with the recent resigning of Michael Bates Newman wouldn't have ALL the pressure on him. Now I'm not gonna go off saying ANY of this would happen, but I'm curious as to if some of you believe this could be possible as well, and do you think this would be a good move or a mistake by the team. Personally if we've bolstered our WR, QB positions I have NO problem with selecting Newman with the first pick and then using our second pick on a OT and our 3rd on a TE

    Maybe.

The resigning of Bates could add to fuel to the Smith trade speculation, assuming you believe Henning when he mentioned getting a WR with some return skills

To be honest Brain - I would rather sit at #9 and wait for possibly Trufant.

Newman is a phenomenal athlete but one big problem I have with him is age. He will be a 25 yr old rookie which is old. Sure he is great - but Trufant is a shut down guy too and why give up something when you don't need to. Trufant may go before us but if so - someone will probably drop to us in that scenerio.

Would be awesome to see Newman running back returns while Coop does the blocking! I think you know how I would feel on this draft possibility!!!

If you remove Smith from the equation, who do we have then that is a big play threat on offense? Foster? Maybe, if he ever does come back from his injury. Davis, hes a great 3 yards and a cloud of dust back, but he wont break the big play. Moose, Dyson, and Proel are possession type guys who are not going to bust a game open. The only break away threat we might have is Dee Brown, who is still only a third down guy. I am afraid that we are going to become the type of team that if the defense has a great day we can win, but the offense wont put up much points. Correct me if Im wrong but the Bucs, this season, never came back in a game they trailed by more than 7 points. While they did win the super bowl, I dont believe our d is quite as good as thiers. So the question is why get rid of the one guy that a defense is afraid of?

I guess you would go with the assumption that we are trading up not for Newman rather for Johnson, or that we would take Newman and add Curtis or Wade later.

I would be trading up for johnson. That to me would be the only reason for a trade with smith that makes since.

Too bad we cant package Wee Wille Weinke and the #9 for the #4 and grab Leftwich. If that happened I would shit rainbows.

If we move up the only thing that would make sense is to go after Andre Johnson. Altough there are no gurauntees because the Texans have an interest in him also. I personally am happy staying at #9 and hope we have more choices than not. Honestly, Johnson will be off the board (most likely Jax) and we will take OT Jordan Gross.

If we land Dyson, we will be more than set at WR at least in quantity. We are most definitely drafting a WR on day one. My take is in the third round. Moose will get cut this year or next I have a feeling and Steve Smith is about one screw up away from being cut. I wouldn't shock me if we made another run at a FA closer to the begining of the season after cuts happen. I personally don't think the coaches are thrilled with any of our current wideouts.
