I bought a CD at BJ Warehouse over the weekend. I opened it up last night when I got home and the CD was cracked. I took it back and got another copy....this time they did not include the software key code. the guy on the support line said that was a common problem and to take it back and get another copy. So I went back again...this time they thought I was trying to pull something at BJ's but eventually gave me another copy.

I can understand their point...they must lose mega $$$ by people just giving it to their friends once they are done with it.

the problem I have with their activation system is that if I need to produce the steps in the documentation of taxes for home or business beyond the current year, and I change computers, I am SOL. Plus Intuit puts another program named C-Dilla on your hard drive that records a number of things and it's not uninstalled when you remove the program either. The links in the story explain a lot better than I can.

I am not a privacy geek per se, but I want to know what is on my computer and I have control over it.

I agree with you on the privacy thing...installing that file should only be done with user consernt.

The IRS could give a rat's ass if your computer breaks or you change computers...if you don't have a paper copy and receipts/documentation, then you are SOL in an IRS audit.
