Jalen Phillips was predominantly used (and more
effective) on the left side, which is where Scourton plays. What are they going to do about this? My best guess is that Scourton will flip to the right, but it's worth discussing. Fwiw, the right OLB is generally the drop player in fire zone/sim pressures in this scheme.

Yes, it still matters. Sides still matter. Base defense still matters, and it's about to matter more as offenses chase the 3 TE fad. You better get players in the right position.

Who is the swing interior OL? I think they want Fortner to win the starting C job, but he's probably the most qualified for this position.

Will Lloyd be the "green dot"? Evero seems fixated on Wallace for this role. Also who is Mike/Will?

Who the fuck is returning kicks and punts other than Etienne?

Not sure how LBs are referred to in a 34
I see 2 new starters on Defense and lots of better 2nd and 3rd string guys overall making us a better team.
Our new C from midwest is not big enough to play G in my opinion, so his only option is to beat our Fortner if he wants to play this season.
We have 3 OTs now that can start. Our new OT has lined up at left and Right tackle, he has the athletic ability to do so.
Scourton Jones and Princely all need a spot, so Scourton will have to learn to play the other side and beat the other two out.

    Have no clue on punts

The Scourton issue is something to think about. I think that Umanmielen is going to make a bigger leap than Scourton anyway, and if Scourton has to move to the right side that could be a big factor in that. Another way to go is just start Princeley and Phillips, and have Jones and Scourton in rotation. Either way, our pass rush is going to be a ton better.

Lloyd is going to be the green dot guy. Wallace's improvement when he got it over Rozeboom probably had as much to do with Rozeboom as it did with Wallace. He did fine when Jewel was wearing it, and he'll be fine working with Lloyd.

Brady Christensen still needs a job, and it won't surprise me a bit if we sign him. He won't be ready until October, and by that time the dust will have settled around who plays where. The only thing that's certain is we don't ever want to see Stone Forsythe with a jersey on game day. We're also getting a healthy Chandler Zavala back, and he looked very serviceable last year before he got hurt. All in all, the Line looks like it's in it's best shape since the Jordan Gross days.

I think that Jimmy Horn Jr. is going to take a stab at returning kicks. It may be the only way he makes the roster.

How long do you think Scott holds on to the starting job? I think Wheatley is going to flash like Ransom did last year, and it's going to be hard to keep those two off the field. We're getting Thornton back too, which has Smith-Wade taking snaps at Safety in camp.

If we stay healthy, I think the defense rises to a top ten unit easily.

My biggest question is Idzik, followed by Brooks. If you look at the shifting nature of our line, we've gone from two guys who excel in the run game (Ikey and Mays) to guys who's strengths are pass protection in Walker and Fortner. The WR room is a solid third receiver away from being good, and we just need one of XL, Metchie, and Brazzell to step up. If Brooks stays healthy, our running game will be more dynamic and we're going to air it out. Bryce is going to have the opportunity to throw for 4,000+ yards if he doesn't miss any games. Again, this all hinges on staying healthy.

Another big question is how they start this year. We haven't opened hot in the Canales era, but with four preseasons games maybe we actually get warmed up properly. I would love to air it out against the Bears and put the league on notice in week one. If we don't, and Atlanta gets some revenge in week two, we're looking at a 1-3 or 0-4 start, which I don't think we can overcome. That first game is really important to us.

We have one of the toughest schedules in the league so we cannot get off to slow start.
We need to sweep ATL and NO and at least split w TB

I think New Orleans is going to be sneaky good this year. Atlanta is a real wild card to me, but Tampa Bay's best days are definitely behind them. They're taking a step back to where they belong, but not before they overpay Baker.

Canales surrendering playcalling while seeming slightly defensive about it makes me a little nervous. I'm picking up small tremors from Mount Tepper there.

Well, he needs to decide on being a Head Coach versus an OC who's leading the team on game day. I'm happy with the move.

The Saints feel like the scrappy team that never takes off into a real contender, sort of like the Jonathan Gannon Cardinals. Bowles has obviously hit a ceiling as a HC and defensive playcaller, but the Bucs still have the best overall roster IMO. Atlanta probably has the best balance of players and coaches, but who the fuck knows how Tua will look.

The division is still right there to be had, even if the team stumbles a bit at first. I don't see anyone else winning more than nine.
