What if it's all a smokescreen? In January we were talking about taking Sonny Styles, or maybe Mansoor Delane. After the Combine, it was very apparent that Styles wouldn't be around when we picked, and the best defensive piece we might be able to get at 19 was Keldric Faulk, who is all potential and no production. That leaves Offensive Tackle as the best position to target.

So, the Front Office starts wargaming and realizes that the best off-ball linebackers after Styles are all second round prospects, but they're early second round guys. At 19, it looks like the best player available might be another guy with all potential and no production, Kenyon Sadiq. We're not interested in a Tight End in the first, but every talking head out there notices the same thing. We break down the Tackle prospects, and the ones we really like are probably going in the early teens.

Ok, so we're stuck in a place where we either take a tackle who needs time to develop, a tight end that we don't want, or an edge rusher that probably won't help in his rookie year. But there are receivers there, and rumor has it that Tyson or Lemon might slide. So we do our homework, bring in three receivers who should be there around 19, and make it clear that no position is off the board.

So it's draft day. Morgan has filled out the roster in free agency well enough that there's nothing glaring, no position that we HAVE to attack. And we're at 19, in kind of no-man's land. We like Thienemen but he goes at 18. We're thinking that we could get Concepcion or Cooper, but feel like the value isn't quite there at 19 so we ask around about moving down. And it turns out that Houston really likes someone like Kadyn Proctor, who we see as a project that we have no patience for.

Well, this is what that might look like. If we dropped all the way down to 28, it's probable that the two WRs we liked are gone, but we have Metchie to play in the slot and we still have Coker and TMac. So we reach a little to get our guy, and this is what we end up with.

    That's what she said :94poopbanana-thumb1

This is the first year I haven't clammered for a trade down. Stay put and draft BPA...UNLESS, someone offers a ton of picks.

everyone here was saying that in dans first draft but after an hour they were calling for trades up. I think we all miss that high of Hurney/Fox making those trades.

Maybe we only signed Walker at LT for one season because Morgan figured he could get a good developmental OT.

Not sure that means first round or not, but we have Icky on an injury and only time will tell if he can come back from it to play LT.
Moton on borrowed time with is age and knees.
Other than that, we have Walker for only one season.

We had better hope these guys hold up.

George Pickens signs his franchise tag. When the Cowboys draft a WR, watch Pickens get traded for a 2nd rd pick
