It's an acceptable skill position group for what the Panthers are trying to accomplish this season. My concern about WR has more to do with 2024 and beyond, since it's going to be a tight market for a WR1 over the next couple of seasons. You might be doing this meatloaf approach to WR for a while, and that's not ideal, because you're shrinking your cheap rookie QB contract window down to like one or two years. If this rookie QB works out - which is far from guaranteed - you only have a couple of years of him being cheap while adding an actual impact player for him to throw to.

In a perfect world, we would get a great Edge guy in the 2nd round, a future starter at TE in the 3rd, WR, RB, in 4th and T/G in 5th.

And then win the Super Bowl in our heads until Septembers first loss

really good point, and makes it apparent how vital it will be to not keep scrounging for targets every fuckin off season. Either Mims or Tillman should be there at #39. From all I've seen they should both have enough from day one to be viable contributors to a Reich style offense. The more continuity a rook QB can develop (and maintain) with a few targets the better he will do.

While watching this XFL game, I was thinking about the comps of Proehl and Thielen and thinking the same. Just having that steady possession WR underneath could be huge for a young QB.

So much stuff coming from every direction on the 2 top QB's.

I know our guys won't be hesitant and will have a favorite, but if not, if they think they both have high upsides, then what would it take for you to trade down with the Texans?

This years 2nd and next years 1st?

Seems like Chicago had the Texans on the hook for a number 1?

    1st Tier
Young. Very, incredibly smart, process quickly, reads every defense. A Luke Kuechly of the offense. But short and downright frail when considering he will be playing with guys 50 to 100 lbs bigger. We cannot make him bigger, but Brees II would not be bad.

Stroud. Bigger, smooth passer, not sure about the leadership, but certainly a winner. Had all world receivers and great protection. Pressure could be his undoing, but he faired well against GA and seemed to have a great game against NFL caliber defense.

    2nd Tier
Levis. Big, strong arm. Looked in college similar to what Josh Allen did at Wyoming, which is a bit sketchy sometimes. Key is, can he turn the corner like Allen did in the pros? It is hard to do and Allen is the exception rather than the rule. Do our coaches think they can make him into something? Would they want that risk?

Richardson. Biggest risk/reward guy in the draft. Cam Newton had less throws on tape than Richardson and Panthers took him number 1. Richardson more gifted athletically than Cam. But, broad jumps are seldom an indicator of how you process different coverages that the defense throws at you. Is he truly a one read and run guy? Can you break that habit?

Hooker. Very gifted QB and can make all the throws. Injury put him in the risk/reward category for sure. Had some decent weapons at TN and could end up as the best QB in Tier 2.

After all the pro days and studying tape till they are blue in the face, the Panthers will need to decide their own tiers and who they can make into something given what the guys faced in college, how they handled pressure, the supporting casts. How does all that transfer to the pro game. I am certain here are psychological tests and such that these guys will undergo and other things that our QB whisperer coach, OC, QB coach and senior advisor have under control. Will we stay at 1? Drop to 2?

The biggest draft haul could come from trading down w Indy and their sketchy owner. Being at 4 is better than being at 9, but are their truly 4 QB's that we find acceptable? I doubt it.

I sucked in Vegas 2 weeks ago, but unless Richardson is other worldly at his pro day, all the smoke is blowing over Young and Stroud.

Why so mum over Levis, unless they sucked in Vegas too?

All the QB's have concerns around them but I think with Young or Stroud we'll be just fine.

It doesn't have to be like one and hate the other.
