It's not that I think Mayfield is a massive upgrade over Darnold. It's just that he has the ability to occasionally hit a downfield throw, so defenses won't wrap around the short/intermediate areas like a boa constrictor, which was the problem with Darnold/Walker/Decaffinated Cam. That, plus a better offensive line gives the Panthers some sort of fighting chance in 2022, depending on what they can get out of Ben McAdoo.

There's a bunch of new people on offense who are loosely affiliated with the Shanahan system, and Rhule was fetishizing about the outside zone last fall, so I'm guess they'll try to do some version of that. Run to set up easy bootleg completions and downfield shots.

Too much depends on CMC. If he stays healthy, I'm expecting at least 24ppg. If he doesn't, it's going to be another long year.

I agree with that. It's a competitive team if he's on the field for most of the season. All of the stuff that he does for an offense is like cheating.

There in lies the elephant in the room...this franchise has hitched it wagon to a guy with serious availability issues.
If they could just get a 2-3 headed monster in the backfield and use CMC more in the slot, I think he'd have a better chance of being available.

I'm skeptical of the slot extends his career theory. Some of these injuries are happening in the open field against grass. He's either on a run of very bad luck or Ron Rivera ran him into a shorter career.

Getting jacked is a good way to invite soft tissue injuries. You're better off just being fat as fuck like Tolbert.

Either way you can't turn a cheetah into a bull. A bull is just a bull.

Is there some rule that requires the "RB" to be inside the tackles? You could just let CMC function as a slot. When Deebo was doing his hybrid thing, what made him a RB or WR on any given play? If a RB motions out, does he become a WR?
