Most of the p&s cameras I`ve had came with few or no manual controls on them. You could get lucky with them sometimes, but shooting low light and not blowing it out requires the bigger more complicated models.
If I actually make plans to go out and do some pic taking then I pack my camera bag and a tripod and make a good time of it. Those times are so rare lately, so I`ve getting my fix with a p&s. While ok, it certainly doesn`t satisfy me like my slr .

When travelling especially, I want lens that will allow me to take pictures and not have to be fumbling around changing things and missing opportunities. Plus, that lens is better than either of my other two and allows for not having to change between.....so I can take more pictures....which is the point for me.

fair enough, if a DSLR is supposed to be the most convenient thing. I guess for travel, it's not that big a deal, but I have a backpack that requires only a small additional space for two primes and an ultra wide along with my normal travel stuff.

that 18-105 and 55-200 are shitty lenses, I'll give you that. No idea why the 35 isn't working for you, it's better than the others. You have to frame pictures, instead of zoom into it, which is better composition. You have to work for a less lazy shot.

All true....but the 55-200 VR is actually a really great lens, they make one that is a shitty too.....I for some stupid reason just didn't bring it. I'm an idiot.

Spending a lot of time in game parks....more than I really wanted to.....I cant get out of the car to frame shots of wildlife by rule of the parks.......or if I got that close it would trample or stomp or eat or maul me. So I have to be able to zoom. Now that I am back into a city for a while....I will make an effort to use that 35. I really just sort of forgot about it.

I agree with the composition thing

the 18-200 has the ability to replace every lens in a camera bag. it's only downside is it weighs 18 oz (i think).. i want a 28 or 35mm prime lens for simple point and shoot.

my 7000 is far from being used as a point and shoot. ironically the cheap nikkor lenses are far from shitty, in fact it's far better than the expensive glass their competitors sell in many cases. their VR technology is better than anything else out there.

the only thing that really matters is the photogs eye. mine isn't very good yet.

most of this is debateable, something I"m not going to do after twenty posts in a row that have no interest in the subject. Feel free to start another thread.
