If Pitts is gone but Sewell, Slater, and Lance/Fields are still there, I would try and Denver to trade up one to make sure we don't let anyone ahead of them to get a QB.
Just saw (at least as of a few days ago) that peyton manning is "tutoring" lock and they like how Lock has already taken positive steps. The rumor is that they will stick with Lock another season and will actually be looking to trade DOWN.

pursuing a trade down to the giants or eagles to let them pick ahead of division rivals would seem much more likely to me

The play of every QB that backed up manning should really terrify any coach or front office. He also gave positive recommendations for Gase.

Though them finding reasons to justify sticking with an Elway pick isn't surprising he's at al davis levels.

I'm just scared one of the QB drops to 8 and we take him over an OT

But if they don't shore up the line a spare qb becomes necessary. Catch 22.

The line will improve through the draft.

It's a deep class so we're not missing out.

There's no doubt we will be in a position to get help, but we could really use a day one starter.

Amen . ... And even with a trade down to 11 or 12 there would be Darrisaw or Slater, and a few defensive “day ones” that would be upgrades. I do agree that if Sewell (or future super star Pitts) is there at 8 then stay put and take a day one sure thing. I just seriously doubt either of the above will last to 8 though.
You HAVE to hit the bullseye with a top half of the 1st rd guy and Carolina could still do that at 11 or 12. From 13 on it will start thinning out quickly on a P.O.N. day one and like the rest of you I would HATE to miss out on a player at a critical position who could be an improvement from day one
