When I was young, I did not know that what we call "hiking" is called "rambling" in England. I have hiked all throughout the southern Cascades and southern Olympics. A person cannot know it all in a single lifetime. The point is the hike itself, each footstep, the walking zen, Kinhin.

In England, the countryside was traditionally designed for walkers to cross fields and streams, to walk from east to west or north to south. Crossing private property to walk was an accepted tradition, unlike the United States tradition. The art of walking with a clear mind is a tradition of both England and Japan.

This song has probably been posted here before, but it continues to evolve for me as I get older.
