    With the trading deadline coming up, I got to thinking...

    * Panthers are 6-0, but need help at receiver to have a realistic SB chance
    * Ravens are 1-6
    * Panthers have $4.6 million in free cap (according to Spotrac)
    * Smitty's salary is $3 million
    * It's impossible for Smitty to distract Funchess any more than he already is

    Smith wouldn't because he carries a grudge.

    The Panthers wont because one of the reasons we're winning is chemistry, and despite what a lot of posters will tell you, that matters. the single greatest intangible is chemistry, and this team has it. Black calls it bull trust, some call it other things, but Smith would - and God I love that guy - but he absolutely would disrupt it.

    When he left he called Rivera a pussy basically. He hates Gettleman, and rightfully so, and this team was DEAD wrong on our judgments about how much he had left in his tank. But if he came back there would be a ton of hard feelings to sort out. Lots of toxicity to deal with. That's not what this team needs.

    It's just not going to happen, and if there was a real chance in hell, if we wanted to trade AGAIN (Norwood, Allen) and tried to get a receiver, Smith wouldn't be the guy, and we wouldn't be his team.

    I understand Smith is angry with us, but his statement about being "born to be a Raven" is stupid, and for the interim, he can fuck off.

    He better retire a Panther, or I will never forgive him. He can't damn all of us because of one man.

    Either way...it would be a bad move, and won't happen. Nor should it.

    Being that Gettleman is a horrible fucking piece of shit on draft day, I wouldn't be opposed to just trading everything for young free agents and mercenaries....I mean, we had picks and we threw them away to draft up and get trash that can't play.

    Not a chance. If every WR we had was bitten by zombies, it still would not happen.

    Smith already made it public he would retire if traded. I would imagine that was specifically pointed at the Panthers (Gettleman)

    I respect him greatly for not wanting to leave his team mates. Most players in that position would be banging the table for a trade behind closed doors.

    You mean like how Smitty did before we drafted Cam.

    He made some poor decisions, imho, that led to him being released. I wish it would have worked out, and I miss his intensity, but it seems like he needed us more than we needed him, and I'd call that a surprise to everyone.

    That was a ballsy fuckin move by Gettleman, like it or not. Bull move, really.

    Dave has made some bold decisions that have helped us to 6-0, but cutting Smith was not one of them.

    To be perfectly honest, the only reason we're 6-0 instead of 4-2 or 3-3 is Norman blossoming into the lragur's best cornerback.
