Trading Graham was probably a big piece of the puzzle.

But this seems to be a recurring pattern...you read about all the cap problems team X has, then the new league rolls around and everything is A-Ok thanks to a couple restructurings and a cut or two.

So what is the deal with a team not complying? They simply can't sign anyone, or is there more to it?

My understanding is that contracts are voided on a Last In, First Out basis until the team is below the cap.

I just don't understand what Tampa and the Saints arew doing. Tampa signed three big names last year and cut them this year. I "think" they have around 14 million dollars of dead money because of this.
    Michael Johnson 7 mil
    Anthony Collins 3 mil
    Clinton McDonald around 4 mil.

The Saints did the same thing with Graham to the tune of 9 mil.

Seeing this I don't feel as bad losing Smitty like we did

From what I gather the Saints have kicked a lot of money into future years. Meanwhile the Bucs made a bunch of big signings, but structured them in a way that they could get out after a year without further guarantees.

I read similar. The Saints have pushed out stupid money and it's come back to bite them. That's why I couldn't figure out how they went from 25 mil over to actually signing folks. They gave Graham away what with dead money. I'm actually kind of ok with what Gettleman has done so far. They over paid for Dickson a bit but the Oher rental is better than Bell. Didn't Bell get 4 mil last year and only on the hook for 2.5 guaranteed for Oher? I wonder if we could have done better than Ginn since his value is in as a returner. Hakeem Nicks for a 1 year cheap deal?

I'll never advocate a free agent spending spree. Been there, don't that, not fun in the end. I just want to use free agency to avoid having to reach for need in the draft. FA busts and bad drafting is why bad teams stay bad.

Agreed. That's why my mistress team, the Packers, keep pulling at my heart strings. Go out and keep Bulaga, and Cobb. Legitimate good players. Instead we go and resign Ginn and Dickson.

Well, yeah, but for around half of what Cobb alone gets.

    We did keep Olsen.
