I was searching for it, just to remember the reactions of picking up Steve Smith. I remember myself wondering why we picked a smaller receiver in the third round. Special teams pick? Maybe it was on the old board before TBR.

No one was pleased with the pick at all. That all changed from the first time 89 touched the fucking ball.

Yeah, I was furious about taking an injury-prone returner in the third round.

I remember being at Fan Fest that year and watching him catch a deep ball on the sidelines and I was impressed by the way he used his body to shield the defender and made the catch. I don't know why I was so negative about the pick considering we had Byrd and Hayes as the other receivers.

My first Smitty memory was the Senior Bowl (or whatever scouting game he played in) where he scored a TD and ran up into the stands and took a seat...and I thought what a cocky little mf.

I remember how much he reminded me of LL Cool J's character from Any Given Sunday, which I still think is one of the most realistic football movies ever made.

Coincidentally the Carruth episode of whatever the crime show is, is airing on the Discovery channel right now. I forgot that fucker wore 89 before Smitty.
